2007 Taiwan Series
The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) playoffs included the three top teams from the regular season and saw Uni-President Lions crowned as the champion with the Taiwan Series through the month of October, 2007. The winner represented Taiwan in the Konami Cup in Japan with the champions from Japan, South Korea, and an allstar team from China to determine an Asian champion in November. Chinese Professional Baseball League
The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL; ) is the top-tier professional baseball league in Taiwan. The league was established in 1989 and played the first season in 1990. CPBL eventually absorbed the competing Taiwan Major League in 2003. As of the 2023 season, the CPBL consists of six organizations, all of which have teams in the main league and farm league. The CPBL consists of Major () and, since 2006, Minor () leagues, with the Minor league team rosters consist of developmental and injury-recovering players. Nelson Figueroa
Nelson Figueroa (born May 18, 1974) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current pitching coach in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Mets, and Houston Astros. Figueroa also played for the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan. He featured a fastball topping out at 91 mph, slider, curveball, changeup, and a splitter. He has also worked as a post-game studio analyst for New York Mets broadcasts. Chen Lien-hung
Chen Lien-hung (), born 13 September 1973 in Tainan, Taiwan, is a Taiwanese former baseball player who played for Chinatrust Whales and Uni-President Lions of Chinese Professional Baseball League. On August 4, 2013, he was named the manager for the Uni-President Lions. On February 16, 2015, Chen was named the hitting coach of the Uni-President Lions. Kao Kuo-ching
Kao Kuo-ching (; born 6 October 1978) is a Taiwanese first baseman who is a free agent. He has previously played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for the Uni-President Lions. He served as the Lions' captain beginning in 2007. He has also played for the Taiwan national baseball team in 2008 Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Hsieh Chia-hsien
Hsieh Chia-hsien (; born 8 April 1976 in Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese professional baseball player. Originally drafted by the Taiwan Major League's Taichung Agan in 1998, after TML's merger into CPBL he has been playing for the Chinese Professional Baseball League's Macoto Gida and its successors Macoto Cobras and Dmedia T-REX since 2003. A left-handed outfielder and first baseman, he is well known for his offensive and powerful batting. He has been a frequent member of the Chinese Taipei national baseball team since 1999 and holds a controversial record of reaching career 100th home run fastest in the history of professional baseball in Taiwan in within only 454 games; CPBL did not recognize this record because his first 75 home runs were hit in the TML. Andy Van Hekken
Andrew William Van Hekken (born July 31, 1979) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Early years He attended Lakeview Elementary School and later Holland High School in Michigan. Professional career Van Hekken was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 1998 MLB draft. In 1999, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers along with Jerry Amador for Brian Hunter. He made his Major League debut in September 2002. In his first Major League appearance, he threw a complete game shutout for a victory against the Cleveland Indians. Pan Wei-lun (; born 5 March 1982 in Pingtung County, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese professional baseball pitcher for the Uni-President Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium
The Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium () is a baseball stadium in South District, Tainan, Taiwan. Situated in the South District, it is currently used mostly for professional baseball games, and has been the home stadium of Uni-President Lions since 1990. History The stadium was built in 1931 at the site of a baseball field built during the Japanese period. The stadium underwent a series of refurbishment in the 70's, and the light poles were installed in 1992 to enable the stadium for nighttime uses. Because the stadium is directly under the flight path of commercial airliners in and out of Tainan Airport, the light poles had their height reduced and had to be placed in front of the grandstands, obscuring the view of certain sections and also make the ball hard to see for outfielders. Peter Daniel Munro (born June 14, 1975) is a former starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played with the Toronto Blue Jays (–) and Houston Astros (–). He batted and threw right-handed. Career After being selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round of the 1993 Major League Baseball Draft, Munro was sent by Boston to the Toronto Blue Jays in in the same transaction which brought catcher Mike Stanley to the Red Sox.
