2007 Burgenland Local Elections
Local and mayoral elections were held in the Austrian state of Burgenland on 7 October 2007. The date was decided on by Franz Steindl (ÖVP), who is responsible for elections as the deputy governor of Burgenland. The elections were held in only 170 of the 171 municipalities of Burgenland because Steinberg-Dörfl had held early elections in 2006. Apart from the SPÖ, the ÖVP, the Greens and the FPÖ, the former leader of the Freedom Party in Burgenland, Wolfgang Rauter, will stand with a split from the FPÖ, the Free Citizens' List (german: Plattform Freie Bürgerlisten, FBL), instead. The FPÖ's goal for the election initially were 70 local councillors or more (this goal was later raised to "90 or more"), while the SPÖ wants to improve on its "record achievement" of 94 mayors in the 2002 elections. The Greens – The Green Alternative
The Greens – The Green Alternative (german: Die Grünen – Die Grüne Alternative, ) is a green political party in Austria. The party was founded in 1986 under the name "Green Alternative" (''Grüne Alternative''), following the merger of the more conservative Green party ''Vereinte Grüne Österreichs'' (United Greens of Austria VGÖ, founded 1982) and the more progressive party ''Alternative Liste Österreichs'' (Alternative List Austria, ALÖ, founded 1982). Wolfgang Rauter
Wolfgang is a German male given name traditionally popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The name is a combination of the Old High German words ''wolf'', meaning "wolf", and ''gang'', meaning "path", "journey", "travel". Besides the regular "wolf", the first element also occurs in Old High German as the combining form "-olf". The earliest reference of the name being used was in the 8th century. The name was also attested as "Vulfgang" in the Reichenauer Verbrüderungsbuch in the 9th century. The earliest recorded famous bearer of the name was a tenth-century Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. The Austrian People's Party (german: Österreichische Volkspartei , ÖVP ) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. Since December 2021, the party has been led provisionally by Karl Nehammer. Austria is a federal republic made up of nine states ( German: ''Länder'').
