2006 National Hurling League
The 2006 National Hurling League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Allianz National Hurling League, was the 75th edition of the National Hurling League (NHL), an annual hurling competition for the GAA county teams. Kilkenny won the league, beating Limerick in the final. Structure Division 1 There are 12 teams in Division 1, divided into 1A and 1B. Each team plays all the others in its group once, earning 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. *The first-placed teams in 1A and 1B advance to the NHL semi-finals. *The second- and third-placed teams in 1A and 1B advance to the NHL quarter-finals. *The fifth- and sixth-placed teams in 1A and 1B go into the relegation semi-finals and final. Jackie Tyrell
Jackie Tyrrell (born 19 June 1982) is an Irish hurler whose league and championship career with the Kilkenny senior team spanned fourteen seasons from 2003 to 2016. Born in Kilkenny, Tyrrell was raised in a hurling household. His father, Dermot Tyrrell, had played for the O'Loughlin Gaels club and was an All-Ireland-winner in the minor grade in 1973 before later playing for the county at under-21 level. Tyrrell played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. Here he won back-to-back Leinster medals, before claiming an All-Ireland medal in 2000. Tyrrell first appeared for the James Stephens club at juvenile and underage levels, before progressing onto the club's senior team in 1999. An All-Ireland medal winners in 2005, he also won two Leinster medals and is a dual championship medal winner. Mark Keane (hurler)
Mark Keane (born 1981) is a hurler. His league and championship career with the Limerick senior team spanned seven seasons from 2000 until 2006. Keane made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Limerick minor team. He spent two championship seasons with the minor team, however, he enjoyed little success during that time. Keane subsequently joined the Limerick under-21 team, winning three successive All-Ireland medals from 2000 to 2002. By this stage he had also joined the Limerick senior team, making his debut in the 2000 league. Over the course of the next seven seasons Keane became a regular member of the starting fifteen, however, he enjoyed little success in terms of silverware. He played his last game for Limerick in July 2006.
