The 2006 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was the 22nd season of the Whelen Modified Tour (WMT). It began with the Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on April 9. It ended with the CarQuest Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway on October 28. Tony Hirschman Jr. entered the season as the defending Drivers' Champion. Whelen Modified Tour
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) (previously the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series from 1985 until 2005) is a modified stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR in the Modified Division. The Modified Division is NASCAR's oldest division, and is the only open-wheeled division that NASCAR sanctions. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events are mainly held in the northeastern United States, but the 2007 and 2008 tours expanded to the Midwest with the addition of a race in Mansfield, Ohio. Domenick “Donny” Anthony Lia (born November 8, 1978) is an American stock car racing driver. He won the 2007 and 2009 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championships. He also won the Race of Champions Modified Tour races in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. He has raced on the national level in the ARCA Re/Max Series (now ARCA Racing Series), Camping World Truck Series, and the Nationwide Series. Early and personal life Lia owns several car dealerships in the Long Island area. Before he began his racing career, Lia competed in Sim-Racing against competitors all over the world, before the start of his career in 1999. Chuck Hossfeld
Chuck Hossfeld (born January 4, 1977) is an American race car driver and team owner. He is a former racer in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Hossfeld began racing at the age of twelve in kart racing at Lancaster Speedway. Five years later, he began racing stock cars at local short tracks and moved to North Carolina, working for former modified drivers Brett Bodine and Randy LaJoie. After making several starts in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series for LaJoie, he auditioned for the Roush Racing Gong Show and was hired to replace reigning champion Greg Biffle in the #50 Ford F-150. Jerry Marquis (born February 14, 1956) is an American former professional stock car racing driver who competed in the NASCAR Busch Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR Busch North Series, and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. He is from Broad Brook, Connecticut. Marquis has won 7 NASCAR Busch North Series races putting him 16th on the all-time list in the Busch North Series. His home track was Stafford Motor Speedway. Jerry Marquis was also infamous for NASCAR's former commentator Bill Weber and the "bodyguard to the stars" incident. The 2006 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour was the second season of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (WSMT). It began with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at Caraway Speedway on March 25. It ended with the Night of the Modifieds 100 at Southern National Motorsports Park on October 21. Junior Miller, who entered the season as the defending championship, would win his second and last championship in the series, six points ahead of series runner up Tim Brown.
