The 2006 All-Big Ten Conference football team consists of American football players chosen as All-Big Ten Conference players for the 2006 Big Ten Conference football season. The conference recognizes two official All-Big Ten selectors: (1) the Big Ten conference coaches selected separate offensive and defensive units and named first- and second-team players (the "Coaches" team); and (2) a panel of sports writers and broadcasters covering the Big Ten also selected offensive and defensive units and named first- and second-team players (the "Media" team). 2006 Big Ten Conference Football Season
The 2006 Big Ten Conference football season was the 111th season for the Big Ten Conference. The season began on Thursday, August 31, 2012 when Northwestern played Miami (Ohio) and Minnesota played Kent State. The season concluded on January 8, 2007 when Big Ten champion Ohio State lost in the BCS National Championship Game to the Florida Gators. Preseason Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez was also the head coach of the team the previous season in 2005. After 15 years of coaching he decided to step down as head coach of the football team and chose Bret Bielema to succeed him. In June 2006 Northwestern head coach Randy Walker unexpectedly died when he suffered an apparent heart attack. Travis Tyrell Beckum (born January 24, 1987) is a former American football tight end. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. William Scott Chandler (born July 23, 1985) is a former American football tight end. He played college football at Iowa and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Marshal Yanda
Marshal John Yanda (born September 15, 1984) is an American former football guard who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Baltimore Ravens. He played college football at the University of Iowa, and was drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft and spent his entire 13-year career with the team.
