2005–06 Pakistan Premier League
The 2005–06 Pakistan Premier League season was the 2nd season of Pakistan Premier League and 51st season of Pakistan domestic football. WAPDA were the defending champions, having won their 1st Pakistan Premier League and 5th Pakistani title the previous season. Pakistan Army won the title on 19 October 2005, after defeating Pakistan Telecommunication 2-0, with 54th and 70th minute goals from Mubassar and Jaffar Hussain. Army had one game to play against WAPDA who were three points away from first position. Army won the league regardless of their result against WAPDA due to superior goal difference. Army won the tie against WAPDA 3-1, with a brace from the league's top scorer Imran Hussain. Army ended up winning the league by six points. Panther Club and Pakistan Public Work Department were relegated at the end of the season and will be replaced by Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and Pakistan Railways in the coming season. Pakistan Premier League
The Pakistan Premier League (PPL; ) is a Pakistani semi-professional league for men's football clubs. The top tier of the Pakistan football league system, the PPL operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the PFFL B Division. The league has remained inactive since the end of the 2014–15 season. The 2018–19 season was held in between after three years of inactivity, however it was reportedly not recognised by FIFA and AFC, as it was completed under a non-FIFA recognised body a month before the termination of the event. Since inception of the Pakistan Premier League in 2004, four clubs have won the title: Khan Research Laboratories (5) WAPDA (4), Pakistan Army (2) and K-Electric (1). The Shoaib Akhtar Stadium, formerly known as Khan Research Laboratories Ground, is a multi-use stadium in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. At first named after Pakistan's nuclear enrichment facility Khan Research Laboratories, it was renamed Shoaib Akhtar Stadium in honour of the tearaway Pakistani fast bowler in March 2021.
