2005 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour
The 2005 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour was the inaugural season of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (WSMT) after NASCAR acquired the SMART Modified Tour. It began with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at Caraway Speedway on March 26. It ended with the Whelen 150 at Ace Speedway on October 29. Junior Miller won his first championship in the series, 32 points ahead of series runner up Burt Myers. Whelen Southern Modified Tour
The Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams (SMART) Tour is a Modified stock car racing series racing in the Southeastern United States, Southeastern region of The United States. The series began in 1989, NASCAR took over the series in 2005. During its time as a NASCAR sanctioned series it followed identical regulations to the Northern NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The series merged with the Northern Modified Tour in 2017 bringing an end to the series after almost 30 years. The series came back in late 2020 without NASCAR sanction under the SMART Tour name and ran its first full season since 2004 in 2021 with the likes of Bobby Labonte and Ryan Preece competing. All races are broadcast live on FloRacing. Frank Fleming (born July 25, 1959) is an American stock car racing driver. Fleming previously competed in the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Currently, he competes part-time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Fleming competed in 10 NASCAR Busch Series races between 1988 and 1991. Timothy Harold Brown (born July 6, 1971) is an American professional stock car racing driver who competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the now defunct NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Brown is a long-time competitor at Bowman Gray Stadium, having won 101 races in the modified division, which is the most of all time as of 2024. Southern National Motorsports Park
Southern National Motorsports Park (formerly Southern National Speedway and Southern National Raceway Park) is a auto racing track in Lucama, North Carolina. History Southern National Motorsports Park hosted 4 NASCAR Southeast Series races between 1996 and 2002. The track also hosted 7 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events between 2006 and 2014. The facility had one ASA National Tour race in 1998. Between 1997 and 2014, the track also hosted 15 CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series events. 11 different drivers had won races and some of them drove in NASCAR, like Mario Gosselin, Bobby Gill, Mark McFarland, Michael Ritch, Clay Rogers and Caleb Holman. Chuck Hossfeld
Chuck Hossfeld (born January 4, 1977) is an American race car driver and team owner. He is a former racer in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Hossfeld began racing at the age of twelve in kart racing at Lancaster Speedway. Five years later, he began racing stock cars at local short tracks and moved to North Carolina, working for former modified drivers Brett Bodine and Randy LaJoie.
