2005 Houston Texans Season
The 2005 Houston Texans season was the franchise's 4th season in the National Football League and the 4th and final season under head coach Dom Capers. The Texans completed the season with the worst record in franchise history (a record that would later be matched in 2013). This led to the Texans obtaining the first selection in the NFL draft for the second time since the franchise formed in 2002. The team fired head coach Dom Capers after the season; he was replaced by Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who would coach the team up until 2013. Their Week 3 game was postponed due to Hurricane Rita. The Texans failed to win a division game, and went 0–8 on the road for the first time in franchise history. Gary Kubiak
Gary Wayne Kubiak (born August 15, 1961) is an American former professional football player and coach in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos before coaching, serving as head coach for the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013 and the Broncos from 2015 to 2016 before stepping down from the position on January 1, 2017, citing health reasons. Kubiak played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies. He was selected in the eighth round of the 1983 NFL draft with the 197th overall pick by Denver, where he played from 1983 to 1991 as the backup to John Elway. Earlier in his coaching career, Kubiak served as an assistant coach for the Broncos, Texas A&M University and San Francisco 49ers. Vernand Morency (born February 4, 1980) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft and also played for the Green Bay Packers.
