2004 Special Honours
As part of the British honours system, the Special Honours are issued at the King's pleasure at any given time. The Special Honours confer the award of the Order of the Garter, Order of the Thistle, Order of Merit, Royal Victorian Order and the Order of St John. British Honours System
In the United Kingdom and the British Overseas Territories, personal bravery, achievement, or service are rewarded with honours. The honours system consists of three types of award: *Honours are used to recognise merit in terms of achievement and service; * Decorations tend to be used to recognise specific deeds; *Medals are used to recognise service on a particular operation or in a specific theatre, long or valuable service, and good conduct. Patricia Morris, Baroness Morris Of Bolton
Patricia Morris, Baroness Morris of Bolton, (born 16 January 1953), is a British peer and former Shadow Minister for Women and an Opposition Whip for the Conservative Party. Morris was made a life peer in 2004, and has previously been Vice-Chairman of the Conservatives with responsibility for candidates. She was Chancellor of the University of Bolton. Political career Prior to entering the House of Lords, Trish Morris was Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party with responsibility for candidates. The Greater London Authority (GLA), colloquially known by the Metonymy, metonym City Hall, is the Devolution in the United Kingdom, devolved Regions of England, regional governance body of Greater London, England. Margaret Omolola Young, Baroness Young of Hornsey, (born 1 June 1951) is a British actress, author, crossbench peer, and Chancellor of the University of Nottingham. Early life and education Young was born in Kensington, London to Nigerian parents. Amicus (trade Union)
Amicus was a trade union in Great Britain and Ireland, primarily representing workers in the private sector. The union was established in January 2002 by the merger of Manufacturing, Science and Finance Union and the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union. Amicus was enlarged by the amalgamation of two unions, UNIFI in 2004 and the Graphical, Paper and Media Union in 2005. Amicus was affiliated to the Trades Union Congress of England and Wales, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Scottish Trades Union Congress. On 1 May 2007, Amicus voted to merge with the Transport and General Workers' Union to form Unite the Union, which became the biggest trade union in the UK at the time. Janet Anne Royall, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon, (born 20 August 1955), is a British Labour Co-operative Party politician. A former secretary and adviser to Neil Kinnock, Royall was appointed to the House of Lords in 2004 after having stood unsuccessfully to be MEP for The Cotswolds, and to be MP for Ipswich and Ogmore. The Women's National Commission (often shortened to WNC) was an advisory non-departmental public body (NDPB) set up in 1969 by former Prime Minister Harold Wilson to advise the United Kingdom's government on women's views, and to act as an umbrella body for UK-based women's groups in their dealings with government. Until the 1990s, it was run by an executive, as voted for by its 'partners'. These were women's groups that had applied for and gained formal membership, the number of groups allowed to become members was limited to fifty. The government appointed a co-chair to manage the body, together with the elected chair. After a review of the organisation in the late 1990s, it was relaunched as an NDPB. Margaret Theresa Prosser, Baroness Prosser, (born 22 August 1937) is a Labour life peer and former trade unionist. Prosser was born on 22 August 1937 in Tooting, London, the daughter of Frederick James and Lillian (née Barry) Prosser. She was educated at St Boniface Primary School, Tooting and St Philomena's School, Carshalton. She studied as a mature student at North East London Polytechnic, qualifying with a Post-graduate Diploma in Advice and Information Studies in 1977.
