2001 Singapore General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 3 November 2001. President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 18 October 2001 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won 82 of the 84 elected seats in Parliament in a landslide victory. This was the third consecutive election (and fourth overall) where the PAP returned to power on nomination day due to a majority of seats, 55 of them from ten Group Representation Constituencies, just one seat short from a supermajority, were elected via walkovers, being the most recent election on doing so. This is Goh Chok Tong's last election as Prime Minister before handing to Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. This election marked the first time that total eligible voter population exceeded the 2 million mark, though only one third of them (675,306 of the 2,036,923 eligible voters) had an opportunity to vote. 2025 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 3 May 2025 to elect all Member of parliament, members of the Parliament of Singapore across Constituencies of Singapore, 33 constituencies. It was the 19th general election in Singapore's history since 1948 Singaporean general election, 1948 and the first election under prime minister Lawrence Wong, who succeeded Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024 and as secretary-general of the People's Action Party (PAP) that December. Yaw Shin Leong
Yaw Shin Leong (; 2 June 1976 – 10 November 2023) was a Singaporean businessman and former Workers' Party (Singapore), Workers' Party politician. He was a Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament representing the constituency of Hougang Single Member Constituency, Hougang SMC between 2011 and 2012. In January 2012, news of a rumoured extramarital affair with a fellow member of the Workers' Party (Singapore), Workers' Party broke out. Yaw said he did not intend to respond to the rumours. James Gomez (politician)
James Gomez (born 10 January 1965) is a Singaporean academic, politician and a member of the Singapore Democratic Party. Education Gomez studied at Serangoon Secondary School and Nanyang Junior College before going on to the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 1988 to 1992, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Political Science. He then completed a Master of Arts degree in Politics and Human Rights at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom in 1994. In 2004, Gomez began studying for a Ph.D. at the Monash Asia Institute of Monash University in Australia. Cheng San GRC
Cheng San Group Representation Constituency (Simplified Chinese: 静山集选区;Traditional Chinese: 靜山集選區) was a defunct Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the North-eastern region in Singapore. The GRC consisted of the eastern part of Ang Mo Kio, Jalan Kayu, Seletar Hills, part of Serangoon North, a large part of Hougang, Buangkok, and the whole of Sengkang New Town and Punggol New Town. Aljunied Group Representation Constituency
The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. It consists of a large part of Hougang (excluding Hougang SMC), Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North as well as a portion of Bedok. The GRC consists of five divisions: Eunos, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Kaki Bukit, Serangoon and Paya Lebar. Nee Soon Central Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) in the northern area of Singapore. The seat consists of Yishun Town Centre (Neighbourhood 9), Neighbourhood 6 and part of Neighbourhood 7. Hong Kah GRC
Hong Kah Group Representation Constituency was a defunct five-member Group Representation Constituency located in the western area of Singapore. The constituency covered the areas of Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Upper Bukit Timah, Jurong West and Lim Chu Kang. Hong Kah GRC was formed in 1988 and eventually dissolved and reformed into Chua Chu Kang GRC in 2011. It had always been held by the People's Action Party. Ling How Doong (; 1934 – 30 April 2021) was a Singaporean politician and lawyer. Cheo Chai Chen ( zh, s=蒋才正, p=Jiǎng Cáizhèng, 1951 – 4 June 2024) was a Singaporean politician and businessman. A member of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), he served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nee Soon Central Single Member Constituency (SMC) between 1992 and 1996. The Jurong Group Representation Constituency was a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the western area of Singapore. The GRC consisted of a large section of Jurong, sections of Bukit Batok and areas near Upper Bukit Timah Road. At abolition, the five divisions of the GRC were Bukit Batok East, Jurong Central, Taman Jurong, Jurong Spring and Clementi, which were managed by Jurong–Clementi Town Council. Chee Soon Juan
Chee Soon Juan (born 20 July 1962) is a Singaporean politician, activist, and former lecturer who was appointed Secretary-General of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) in 1993. Prior to entering politics in 1992, Chee was a lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was invited by Chiam See Tong to join the SDP, and was a member of the SDP's team that stood in the 1992 Marine Parade by-election. Chee subsequently succeeded Chiam as the party's secretary-general after Chiam, whom Chee and the rest of the party's leadership have had a number of disagreements with, left the party.
