Erovnuli Liga
The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა - lit. National League) is the top division of professional football in Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017 the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. Giorgi Merabovich Megreladze (born 21 July 1978) is a retired Georgian footballer. He is the son of former Georgian football player and FC Torpedo Kutaisi star Merab Megreladze. At the start of the 2006–07 season Megreladze signed up to play for FK Baku. He also played, among other clubs, for FC Dinamo Tbilisi and FC Torpedo Kutaisi. Varlam Kilasonia
Varlam Kilasonia (born 13 August 1967) is a Georgian professional football manager and former player who is the head coach of Liga 3 club Rustavi. Career As a player, Varlam Kilasonia spent 17 years in four different countries. He started his managerial career at Olimpi Rustavi in 2006. Twice in a row, in 2016 and 2017, he led the newly created football club Rustavi to championship titles in the second tier, which in the second case implied automatic promotion to Erovnuli Liga. Following three spells with this club, from July 2020 to June 2021 Kilasonia was in charge of Sioni Bolnisi, where he was named the best manager in the first phase of the season. In late July 2022 he was announced as head coach of Merani Martvili. After his departure from this club at the end of this season, Kilasonia returned to Rustavi in February 2023. Mikheil Ashvetia ( ka, მიხეილ აშვეთია; born 10 November 1977) is a Georgian former footballer. He has played mostly in Georgia and Russia, except for a short spell at FC København in 2001–2002 and a recent spell in Germany with FC Carl Zeiss Jena. In Russia he has played for Alania Vladikavkaz, Lokomotiv Moscow, Rubin Kazan and FC Rostov. While playing for Lokomotiv, he scored a notable Champion League 2003–04 goal against Inter Milan making a score 2–0 for Lokomotiv. His team went ahead and won the game with an impressive 3–0 result. He played for the Georgian national team between 1995 and 2005, and was capped 24 times, scoring five goals. Rati Aleksidze ( ka, რატი ალექსიძე; born 3 August 1978 in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a former football striker from Georgia. Career His club career started in Dinamo Tbilisi in the 1996/97 season. His goal-scoring abilities helped them win the league titles in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as well as the 1997 cup. During his Dinamo career Aleksidze scored 33 goals in 71 appearances, and especially the 12 goals in 14 games in the 1999/00 season attracted the interest of bigger European clubs. He was taken on trial to English team Chelsea, who decided to buy him. Aleksidze found first team opportunities at Chelsea hard to come by, however, as he only played in two league games and one European match, all as substitute. Released by Chelsea in September 2001, he eventually returned to Dinamo where he scored nine goals in his first season. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. FC Sioni Bolnisi
FC Sioni is a Georgian football club based in Bolnisi. Following the 2022 season, they were relegated to Erovnuli Liga Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian league system. The team has once claimed the national league champion's title. Sioni plays their home matches at local stadium named after Tamaz Stepania. History The football club in Bolnisi was founded in 1936. For years they took part in Georgian domestic competitions under the name ''Madneuli''. While being in the second division in early 1990s, the team emerged among the candidates challenging for the top league.
