The 1999 Swedish speedway season was the 1999 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1999 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Norrkoping on 4 September. Tony Rickardsson won the Swedish Championship for the fifth time and third year in a row. Thomas Olsson (speedway Rider)
Thomas Lars Olof Olsson (born 15 February 1976) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. His last professional club was IFK Göteborg. After playing for the local club Åtvidabergs FF, he joined IFK Norrköping in 1998. In 2003, he joined Malmö FF with which he has won one Swedish championship. He moved on to IFK Göteborg before the 2006 season, and was a key player there during their gold season 2007. Olsson retired from professional football after the 2011 season. Smederna
Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion outside Eskilstuna. Ikaros Smederna was formerly known as just Smederna but after making a sponsorship deal with company Ikaros in the fall of 2008 the club changed its name. However, this did not have the wanted effect on the club economy and in July 2009 the club went bankrupt and withdrew from Elitserien to restart in Division 1. Smederna has won six Swedish Speedway Team Championships, in 1973, 1977, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and were the home club of three individual world champions, Billy Hamill, Mark Loram and Nicki Pedersen. Rospiggarna
Rospiggarna is a motorcycle speedway team based in Hallstavik, Sweden. The club was founded in 1930 and were named ''Orion'', although it did not compete in the Swedish speedway leagues until 1966. The club joined the Swedish Division Three in 1966 and the team name was changed to ''Stjärnorna'' (English: The Stars). In 1978 the name was changed again to Rospiggarna which is the demonym for people from Roslagen, where Hallstavik is situated. Masarna
Masarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Avesta (locality), Avesta, Sweden. The club was founded in 1937 as the ''Folkare Motorklubb'' but their first track was not built until 1948. Masarna joined the Swedish second division in 1958 and remained there until gaining promotion to the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien in 1999. They then won their first Elitserien championship in 2000. Allsvenskan (literally, "The National League") is the second tier in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises seven Swedish speedway teams. Until the introduction of the Elitserien in 1982 the Allsvenskan was the highest level of Swedish Speedway. Sam Ermolenko
Guy Allen 'Sudden Sam' Ermolenko (born November 23, 1960 Maywood, California) is a former speedway rider. In 1993 he won the Speedway World Championship in Pocking, Germany.Bamford, R. & Shailes, G. (2002). ''A History of the World Speedway Championship''. Stroud: Tempus Publishing. He is the older brother of Charles 'Dukie' Ermolenko who also rode in the United Kingdom. Early career After originally showing an interest in motocross, Ermolenko began riding in the Californian speedway circuit. As he wore red leathers, former World Champion Barry Briggs suggested the nickname of "The mad Russian" (Due to Sam's family roots) although it is believed this is not something Sam himself was keen on. Coming to Europe After some liberal success in California, Ermolenko moved over to the UK to race for the Poole Pirates for the 1983 British League season. Rune Holta
Rune Holta (born 29 August 1973 in Stavanger, Norway) is a speedway rider. He grew up in Randaberg Norway, but has been a Polish citizen since 2002, allowing him to represent Poland in international competitions and was a member of their Speedway World Cup winning teams in 2005, 2007 & 2010. He has also won the Polish Championship in 2003 and 2007. In 2020, he rode for Dackarna Malilla in the Swedish Elit League and for Włókniarz Częstochowa in the Polish Ekstraliga. In 2022, he helped PSŻ Poznań win the 2022 2.Liga. Awards For his sport achievements, he received: Golden Cross of Merit in 2007. Speedway Grand Prix Plane crash In 2007 Holta survived a plane crash with fellow rider Tomasz Gollob. The plane, flown by Władysław Gollob, crashed on the way to a meeting at Tarnów. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway.
