The 1998 Swedish Golf Tour, titled as the 1998 Telia Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 15th season of the Swedish Golf Tour, the main professional golf tour in Sweden since it was formed in 1984, with most tournaments being incorporated into the Challenge Tour between 1989 and 1998. Peter Hanson
Peter Daniel Hanson (born 4 October 1977) is a Swedish former professional golfer who played on the European Tour and has played on the PGA Tour. Early life Hanson was born in Svedala, in Skåne county in the south of Sweden. He was first introduced to the game by neighbors and started playing at Bokskogen Golf Club, where he was coached by club professional Jan Larsson. Amateur career Hanson was a member of the Swedish team at age 19, finishing fourth, at the 1997 European Amateur Team Championship at Portmarnock Golf Club, Ireland. As an amateur, he won three times on the professional Swedish Golf Tour in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, he also won the Brabazon Trophy at Formby Golf Club. After representing Sweden at the 1998 Eisenhower Trophy in Santiago, Chile, Hanson turned professional. Västerås Open
The Västerås Open was a golf tournament on the Swedish Golf Tour that featured on the Challenge Tour 1990–1994. It was played in Västerås, Sweden. The Kentab Open was first played as an amateur tournament at Västerås GC in 1978, and it was added to the Swedish Golf Tour in 1986. Starting in 1998 the tournament began rotating between Västerås GC, Frösåker G&CC, Ängsö GC and Fullerö GC. In 2007 Västerås Municipality became the main sponsor and it was rebranded the ''Västerås Mälarstaden Open''. A similarly named event, the Kentab/RBG Open, sponsored name of the 1996 Swedish PGA Championship, was played at Frösåker G&CC and featured on the 1996 Challenge Tour. 1998 Swedish Golf Tour (women)
The 1998 Swedish Golf Tour, known as the Telia Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 13th season of the Swedish Golf Tour, a series of professional golf tournaments for women held in Sweden and Finland. The tour extended to Finland for the first time with the inaugural Felix Finnish Ladies Open held at Aura Golf in Turku. Pernilla Sterner and Marie Hedberg both won two tournaments and Nina Karlsson won her second Order of Merit. Mats Lanner
Mats Åke Lanner (born 5 March 1961) is a Swedish professional golfer, who formerly played on the European Tour. In 1987, he became the second Swedish player to win a European Tour tournament. Early life and amateur career Lanner was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, and learned the game at Albatross Golf Club, situated on the island Hisingen in the northern part of the city of Gothenburg. He was also a member at Strömstad Golf Club, near the Norwegian border, were he won the club championship at 16 years of age. Fredrik Widmark (born 20 November 1975 in Hässleholm) is a Swedish professional golfer. A graduate from the U.S. college system where he won five times, Widmark turned professional in 1998 and played predominantly on Europe's second tier Challenge Tour where he won three tournaments. Graduated from the Challenge Tour in 2002 when he finished 14th on the end of season rankings. A 66 (-7) in the final round, the best round of the tournament, gave him his maiden Challenge Tour victory in the 2002 Izki Challenge de España but had to wait until the closing weeks of the season before three more top ten finishes secured his place in the top 20. The Swedish PGA Championship for men is a golf tournament played annually in Sweden since 1970. It has been an event on the Swedish Golf Tour schedule since 1984 and the Nordic Golf League since 1999. History From its beginning in 1970, it was a championship for members of the PGA of Sweden. Since 1986, the tournament has been open to foreign players. The tournament was part of the Challenge Tour from 1990 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2005. Since 1984, when tournament professionals had been dominating the event for several years, there is also a Swedish PGA Club Pro Championship, limited to club professionals in Sweden, with separate competitions for men, women and senior men categories.
