1998 Arizona Senate Election
The 1998 Arizona Senate election was held on November 3, 1998. Voters elected members of the Arizona Senate in all 30 of the state's legislative districts to serve a two-year term. Primary elections were held on September 8, 1998. Prior to the elections, the Republicans held a majority of 18 seats over the Democrats' 12 seats. Following the election, Republicans maintained control of the chamber with 16 Republicans to 14 Democrats, a net gain of two seats for Democrats. The newly elected senators served in the 44th Arizona State Legislature. ''Phoenix New Times'' is a free digital and print media company based in Phoenix, Arizona. ''Phoenix'' ''New Times'' publishes daily online coverage of local news, restaurants, music, arts, cannabis, as well as longform narrative journalism. A weekly print issue circulates every Thursday. John Huppenthal
John Huppenthal (born March 3, 1954) is an American politician who served as Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2011 to 2015. Prior to being elected Superintendent, Huppenthal served as City Councilman, State Representative, and State Senator. Huppenthal was also a Senior Planning Analyst for Salt River Project. Personal life Huppenthal was born in Michigan City, Indiana and moved with his family to Arizona during childhood. He graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Arizona University. He then obtained a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University. Arizona's 6th legislative district is one of 30 in the state, consisting of all of Apache County and sections of Coconino County, Gila County, Graham County, Arizona, Graham County, Mohave County, Navajo County, and Pinal County. As of 2023, there are 108 precincts in the district, with a total registered voter population of 151,306. The district has an overall population of 225,474. Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, the Redistricting in Arizona, Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (AIRC) redrew legislative district boundaries in Arizona. Herb Guenther
Herb Guenther (April 9, 1941 – December 17, 2021) was an American politician who was a member of both the Arizona House of Representatives and the Arizona State Senate The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents (2009 figure .... He served in the House from January 1987 until January 1993. He was first elected to the House in November 1986, representing District 5, and was re-elected in 1990 and 1992. In 1998 he ran for the Arizona Senate, and was elected, representing District 5. He won re-election to the Senate in 2000, but did not run for re-election in 2002. He died on December 17, 2021, at the age of 80.
