1996–97 Ukrainian Cup
The 1996–97 Ukrainian Cup was the sixth annual edition of Ukraine's association football, football knockout competition, the Ukrainian Cup. This season for all amateur clubs was revived separate competition (1996–97 Ukrainian Amateur Cup, Amateur Cup) that was discontinued back in 1989. No amateur clubs participated in the competition this season. Two legs rounds were revived for quarterfinals and semifinals. The Cup started with the round of 32, but it also had couple of preliminaries. The qualification rounds of competition started on 14 August 1996 with nine matches. The cup holder Dynamo Kyiv was eliminated in away game against Nyva Vinnytsia losing on penalty kicks in the Round of 16. FC Shakhtar Donetsk
Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk () is a Ukrainian professional Association football, football club that was based in the city of Donetsk until 2014 when, due to the War in Donbas (2014–2022), War in Donbas, the club was forced to move to Lviv, and played matches in Lviv (2014–2016) and in Kharkiv (2017–2020) whilst having its office headquarters and training facilities in Kyiv. In May 2020, Shakhtar started to play home matches at Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex, NSC Olimpiyskyi in Kyiv. Slavutych Football Club () was a Ukrainian football club from Slavutych, Kyiv Oblast. Founded in 1994, it participated in professional competitions in 1995–1998 spending three seasons in the Ukrainian Second League. FC Shakhtar-2 Donetsk was a Ukrainian reserve football team based in Donetsk, Ukraine. History The club was formed in 1992. It was preceded by Shakhter-D Donetsk (where D stood for double) which since 1949 participated in the Soviet football championship for reserve teams.
