1993 Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1993 Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix was the fourth round of the 1993 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on 2 May 1993 at the Circuito de Jerez. The weekend was marred by a practice accident which resulted in the death of Japanese rider Nobuyuki Wakai after he had struck a spectator who had entered the pit lane without authorization. 500 cc race report Kevin Schwantz’ 4th pole in 4 races. Wayne Rainey takes the start from Schwantz and Alex Barros. Schwantz and Rainey get a gap from Àlex Crivillé, Mick Doohan, with Barros closing. Barros up to 3rd, and then arrives to Schwantz and Rainey. Schwantz waves his teammate Barros through to 2nd, then Barros takes the lead from Rainey. Barros and Schwantz get a gap, but Schwantz makes a mistake and goes into the grass. He saves it and remains in 2nd. Ducados is a brand of cigarettes that is currently owned and manufactured by Altadis, a division of Imperial Tobacco. ''Ducados'' is Spanish for ''Ducats'', a gold coin was part of the original design of the package. History The brand was introduced in 1963. The original Ducados cigarettes (''"Ducados Negros"'') were strong and mainly smoked by men. As more women joined the workforce in and after the 1960s, the black cigarettes became less popular because many women didn't like the bad taste that it left in their mouths. Cornelis Martinus Anthinius Maria Doorakkers (born 2 March 1963 in Gilze, Netherlands) is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Cees Doorakker was the 250cc Dutch champion in 1984 and 1986. In 1986 he also reached the championship in the 500cc class. Doorakkers raced in the Grand Prix road race world championship between 1984 and 1995. Being a privateer without factory supported machines, he scored only a few points, his best result being a seventh place at the Yugoslavian Grand Prix in Rijeka in 1990. That season he reached a total of 39 points, 16th in the final ranking. In 1991 he finished the season ranked as the top privateer, ranking 14th overall (40 points). Later years were plagued by lack of money, inferior equipment and bad luck, like the jamming of his new engine in the first race of the season in Australia. Lucio Pedercini (born September 22, 1972) is an Italian former professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer and current motorcycle racing team owner. Career Born in Volta Mantovana, he began racing in the Grand Prix world championships in 1992. Sean Emmett (born 4 February 1970) is an English former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Racing career Born in Walton on Thames, Sean Emmett began his career in 1989 at Brands Hatch. In 1989, he won the 350cc Production Championship. He also won the Avon Tyres Trophy for "the most talented young rider with the most promising future". Previous winners included John Surtees, Mike Hailwood and Barry Sheene.
