1990–91 England Hockey League Season
The 1990–91 English Hockey League season took place from October 1990 until May 1991. The Men's National League was sponsored by Poundstretcher and was won by Havant. The top four teams qualified to take part in the Poundstretcher League Cup tournament which was won by Hounslow. The Women's National League was sponsored by Typhoo and was won by Slough. The Men's Hockey Association Cup was won by Hounslow and the Women's Cup (National Club Championship finals) was won by Sutton Coldfield. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organised by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Russell Simon Garcia (born 20 June 1970) is an English field hockey coach and a former England & GB field hockey player. He won a gold medal with Great Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul at the age of 18 years 3 months, making him Britain's youngest ever Olympic champion. Robert William Hill (born 11 June 1967) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Biography Hill attended Millfield from 1981 to 1986 and became a farmer by trade. For the 1989/90 season he signed for Havant Hockey Club. While at Havant, he represented England at the 1990 Men's Hockey World Cup and represented Great Britain at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. After the Olympics, he joined Bristol hockey club Firebrands for one season before rejoining Havant the following season. Nick Thompson (field Hockey)
Nicholas Thompson (born 21 September 1967) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics. He gained 196 caps and scored 58 goals. Biography Thompson, born in Hackney, only picked up a hockey stick in 1981 aged 14 but by 1983 was representing the England U16 team. Thompson played club hockey for Old Loughtonians Hockey Club in the Men's England Hockey League from 1986 and was involved in the Seoul 1988 Olympic training squad. Guy Tristan Fordham (born 19 July 1975) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics and in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Biography Fordham played club hockey for Hounslow in the Men's England Hockey League, breaking into the first team at the age of 16. He made his England debut with the club in 1995 and became the club captain. Jonathan Nicholas Mark Potter (born 19 November 1963) is a former field hockey player who was a member of the gold-winning Great Britain squad at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. After his playing career he became the managing director of House of Suntory and Maison Courvoisier at Suntory Global Spirits. Biography Potter was born in Paddington, Greater London, in an Anglo-Indian family and brought up in Slough, England.
