1989 Challenge Tour
The 1989 Challenge Tour was a series of golf tournaments known as the Challenge Tour, the official development tour run by the PGA European Tour. The tour was started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially named the Challenge Tour ready for the start of the 1990 season. The 1989 Challenge Tour Rankings were won by England's Neal Briggs. Challenge Tour Rankings ''For full rankings, see 1989 Challenge Tour graduates.'' The rankings were based on prize money won during the season, calculated in Pound sterling. The top five players on the tour earned status to play on the 1990 European Tour. Anders Gillner
Anders Gillner (born 6 August 1967) is a Swedish former professional golfer who played on the European Tour. Gillner represented Sweden at the 1984 European Boys' Team Championship at the Royal St George's Golf Club. He turned professional in 1988 and played on the Swedish Golf Tour where he won the Wermland Open and Swedish International Stroke Play Championship – Aragon Open in 1989, and was runner-up at the 1988 Swedish Matchplay Championship and 1991 Västerås Open. Turning his attention to Europe, on the 1992 Challenge Tour Gillner had 9 top-10 finishes, including third place at Club Med Open in Bogogno, runner-up at the Audi Quattro Trophy one stroke behind Pierre Fulke, and winning the season-ending Tessali Open in Italy after a playoff with Baldovino Dassù, finishing 8th on the Challenge Tour ranking. Costantino Rocca
Costantino Rocca (born 4 December 1956) is an Italian golfer. He was long known as the most successful male golfer that Italy has produced, until the 2018 success of Francesco Molinari, who credited Rocca as an inspiration to him following his Open victory. After a long career on the European Tour, Constantino is now playing on the European Seniors Tour. He has five European Tour wins and is best known for his second-place finish in the 1995 Open Championship, and his hole in one in 1995 Ryder Cup. 1990 European Tour
The 1990 European Tour, titled as the 1990 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 19th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 37 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and seven non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Wales' Ian Woosnam for the second time, having previously won in 1987. Changes for 1990 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Atlantic Open, the Amex Med Open and the Austrian Open; and the promotion of the Murphy's Cup to full Order of Merit status. Mats Åke Lanner (born 5 March 1961) is a Swedish professional golfer, who formerly played on the European Tour. In 1987, he became the second Swedish player to win a European Tour tournament. Early life and amateur career Lanner was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, and learned the game at Albatross Golf Club, situated on the island Hisingen in the northern part of the city of Gothenburg.
