1987 Formula Shell Spark Aiders Season
The 1987 Formula Shell Spark Aiders season was the third season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as Shell Azocord Super Bugbusters in the Reinforced Conference. Transactions Trades Occurrences Head coach Edgardo Ocampo was replaced by national team coach Joe Lipa starting the Third Conference after two dismal conferences by the team. Import Dexter Shouse suddenly left after leading Shell to six wins and two losses in the Third Conference, taking his place is another former Shell import Dwight Anderson. Notable dates April 26: Formula Shell finally found a redeemer in import Calvin Thompson and struck a first-ever triumph in the Open Conference at the expense of Ginebra San Miguel, 107-104. Edgardo Ocampo
Edgardo Luciano Ocampo (October 5, 1938 – July 29, 1992) was a Filipino basketball player and coach. Early life and education Ocampo was born in Pampanga, Philippines on October 5, 1938. He was one of four children of renowned architect Fernando H. Ocampo and Lourdes Luciano. He was educated at the Ateneo de Manila (GS 1951, HS 1955, BSBA 1959). Playing career Football During his grade school years, Ocampo became interested in basketball and football. He tried out for the grade school basketball team, but did not pass the height requirement. Instead, he made it into the football squad where, his brilliance in the field became apparent. By the age of seventeen, Ocampo was acclaimed by sportswriters as “Mr. Football”. Dwight Anthony Anderson (December 28, 1960 – September 5, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. College career Born in Dayton, Ohio, Anderson graduated from Roth High School in Dayton. He played for the University of Kentucky 1978–1980, scoring 13 PPG on 50FG%. Calvin Thompson (born June 27, 1964) is an American basketball coach and a member of the University of Kansas' 1986 Final Four team. He holds Kansas' record for most consecutive free throws made at 33 in 1983–84, made second-team All-Big Eight in 1983 and 1984, and the All-Big Eight Tournament team 1983 and 1984. The tournament is an Import-laden format, which requires an import or a pure-foreign player for each team.
