1986–87 Cypriot Second Division
The 1986–87 Cypriot Second Division was the 32nd season of the Cypriot second-level football league. APEP FC won their 1st title. Format Fifteen teams participated in the 1986–87 Cypriot Second Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first two teams were promoted to 1987–88 Cypriot First Division. The last two teams were relegated to the 1987–88 Cypriot Third Division. Cypriot Second Division
The Cypriot Second Division () is the second highest association football, football division of the Cypriot football league system. Administered by the Cyprus Football Association, it is contested by 16 teams, with the top three teams being Promotion and relegation, promoted to the Cypriot First Division and the last three teams being Promotion and relegation, relegated to the Cypriot Third Division. History The Cypriot Second Division started unofficially the 1934–35 football season as the second level of the Cypriot football (Cyprus Football Association founded in 1934). The competition consisted of teams that didn't participate in Cypriot First Division and the reserve teams of the Cypriot First Division clubs. In the reserve teams were allowed to participate only players that had no more than three caps with their team in First Division. The reserve teams won all the titles of the unofficial period. Kentro Neon Onisillos Sotiras was a Football in Cyprus, Cypriot association football, football club based in the village of Sotira, Famagusta, Sotira. The club was founded in 1978 and was named after the ancient Cypriot revolutionary Onesilus. 1986–87 Cypriot Cup
The 1986–87 Cypriot Cup was the 45th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 57 clubs entered the competition. It began on 19 November 1986 with the first preliminary round and concluded on 20 June 1987 with the final which was held at Tsirion Stadium. AEL Limassol won their 5th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating Apollon 1–0 in the final. Format In the 1986–87 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division, the Cypriot Third Division and 12 of the 46 teams of the Cypriot Fourth Division. The competition consisted of seven knock-out rounds. In the preliminary rounds each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of one of the two teams, according to the draw results. Each tie winner was qualifying to the next round. Othellos Athienou () is a Cypriot football club based in Athienou, Larnaca and competes in the Cypriot first Division. The football department is the only activity of the club at the moment, which participated for the second time in the Cypriot First Division, the top football level division in Cyprus after 8 years from the first season in top flight. Akritas Chlorakas () is a Cypriot football club based in Chloraka, Paphos. The club was founded in 1971 and currently plays in the Cypriot Second Division. Akritas' colours are green and white, and they play their home games at the Chloraka Municipal Stadium. The club is owned by Lithuanian investor Liutauras Varanavičius. Keravnos Strovolou FC () was a Cypriot football club based in Strovolos, Nicosia. The team was part of the Keravnos B.C. sports club, which was founded in 1926; the parent club fields a men's basketball team. Founding The Men's football division was originally formed in 1926 when Aggelos Hadjiiosif, part of Keravnos B.C. sports club, approached an amateur football team called "Neolea"(). Evagoras Paphos
Athlitikos Syllogos Evagoras Paphos () was a Cypriot football club based in the city of Paphos. Founded in 1961, they played in both the First and Second Divisions. They adopted their name from Evagoras Pallikarides, a poet from Paphos who was hanged by the British authorities, as he was an EOKA guerrilla, fighting for the independence of Cyprus. He was the youngest insurgent to be executed in Cyprus. The club's badge was a green shield with the figure of Evagoras Pallikarides's face in a circle.
