1980 Goodmayes By-election
Goodmayes is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Redbridge. It is based on the Goodmayes area of Ilford. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. It returns councillors to Redbridge London Borough Council. The ward has almost always returned Labour councillors, the only exception being 1968 when one Conservative councillor was elected alongside two Labour ones. Redbridge London Borough Council, also known as Redbridge Council, is the local authority for the London Borough of Redbridge in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in London. The council has been under Labour Party (UK), Labour majority control since 2014. 1964 Redbridge London Borough Council Election
The 1964 Redbridge Council election took place on 7 May 1964 to elect members of Redbridge London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative Party gained control of the council. Background These elections were the first to the newly formed borough. Previously elections had taken place in the Municipal Borough of Dagenham, Municipal Borough of Ilford, Municipal Borough of Wanstead and Woodford and Chigwell Urban District. These boroughs and districts were joined to form the new London Borough of Redbridge by the London Government Act 1963. A total of 192 candidates stood in the election for the 60 seats being contested across 17 wards. These included a full slate from the Conservative, Labour and Liberal parties. Other candidates included 8 Communists and 4 Residents. There were 9 four-seat wards and 8 three-seat wards. The 1968 Redbridge Council election took place on 9 May 1968 to elect members of Redbridge London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. Electoral arrangements The election was originally scheduled for 1967, but the term of members due to go out in 1967 was extended for one year to prevent the London borough council elections taking place in the same year as the Greater London Council election.
