Redbridge London Borough Council, also known as Redbridge Council, is the local authority for the London Borough of Redbridge in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in London. The council has been under Labour Party (UK), Labour majority control since 2014. The council meets at Redbridge Town Hall in Ilford and has its main offices nearby at Lynton House. The 2010 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 6 May 2010, to elect 650 Members of Parliament (or MPs) to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons. The first to be held after the minimum age for candidates was reduced from Electoral Administration Act 2006, 21 to 18, it resulted in the Brown ministry, Labour government losing its 2005 United Kingdom general election, 66-seat majority to the Shadow Cabinet of David Cameron, Conservative opposition; however, with the Conservative Party (UK), Conservatives only having 306 elected MPs, this election resulted in the first hung parliament since February 1974 United Kingdom general election, February 1974. 2010 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2010 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 6 May 2010, concurrently with the 2010 general election. Direct elections were held to all 32 London boroughs, all 36 metropolitan boroughs, 76 second-tier district authorities, 20 unitary authorities and various Mayoral posts, all in England. For those authorities elected "all out" these were the first elections since 2006. The results provided some comfort to the Labour Party, losing the general election on the same day, as it was the first time Conservative councillor numbers declined since 1996. Jas Athwal
Jasbir Singh Athwal (, born September 1963) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the MP for Ilford South since July 2024. He previously served as Leader of Redbridge London Borough Council from 2014 to 2024. Early life and education Jas Athwal was born in the Punjab state in India, in September 1963, into a Punjabi Sikh family. When Jas was seven years old, his father relocated to Ilford, in London, England to work at a Ford factory, before being joined a few years later by Jas and his mother, neither of whom spoke English at the time. His mother worked at home sewing ties. He attended Mayfield School in Ilford. Business career Athwal founded and owned children's nursery businesses in Derby and Essex, which are now owned by his wife. One of these companies was criticised by Ofsted over breaching child safety rules at three of its properties. The problems have now been resolved and the nurseries are ranked "good" by Ofsted. Alex Wilson (born 1984) is a British politician and businessman, serving as a Member of the London Assembly (AM) for Londonwide since 2024. He is a member of Reform UK. He was previously a member of the Conservative Party for over twenty years and was an elected Conservative Party councillor. Political career Conservative Party Wilson was initially a member of the Conservative Party, serving as a Conservative councillor on Redbridge London Borough Council from 2009 to 2014. Whilst serving as a councillor he was forced to resign from his cabinet position after implying he had been accused of not dedicating enough time to his portfolio. Ashley Gunstock (born ) is a British Green Party politician and actor. He unsuccessfully ran against Caroline Lucas to become the first leader of the Green Party in 2008 and was a candidate in the 2021 Green Party of England and Wales leadership election. Acting career Gunstock played the role of Robin Frank in ''The Bill'' from 1984–1989. In 2016, he collaborated on a translation into English of the Dario Niccodemi play ''Scampolo''.
