Events * 28 August – Martin Luther King Jr. delivers his "I Have a Dream" speech which is broadcast over the radio. * 22 November – On the ABC Radio network in the United States, newscaster Don Gardiner interrupts the song " Hooray for Hollywood" by Doris Day to announce that shots have been fired at the motorcade of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. This is the first national broadcast bulletin of the news of the shooting. Gregg Hughes
Gregg Hughes (born May 23, 1963) better known by his air name Opie, is an American radio personality and podcast host. He is best known as the former co-host of the ''Opie and Anthony'' radio show that aired from 1995 until 2014 with Anthony Cumia, as well as comedian Jim Norton beginning in 2001. Following Cumia's firing from SiriusXM in July 2014, Hughes and Norton stayed on as co-hosts of ''Opie with Jim Norton''. In October 2016, Hughes began hosting his own program, ''The Opie Radio Show'', which continued until his termination on July 7, 2017, after he installed a toilet camera to film a fellow employee in the men's restroom without consent. On May 8, 2018, Hughes launched his new podcast, ''The Opie Radio Podcast'' on the Westwood One network. Due to low listenership, in June 2019, Westwood One terminated the relationship. Bill Gavin (November 6, 1907 – January 27, 1985) was an American radio personality and publisher of the influential ''Gavin Report''. Life and education Gavin was born in Chetek, Wisconsin in 1907. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of California-Berkeley. Before his radio career, he was a teacher, pianist and singer. He briefly traveled with an all-male vocal group called ''The Blenders.'' He died of cancer in 1985 at the age of 77. Career He created the ''Lucky Lager Dance Time'' radio show in 1955 with the McCann-Erickson advertising agency. Gavin founded the Gavin Report in 1958 with information from the show. Record charts have traditionally consisted of a total of 40 songs. "Top 40" or " contemporary hit radio" is also a radio format. History According to producer Richard Fatherley, Todd Storz was the inventor of the format, at his radio station KOWH in Omaha, Nebraska. Storz invented the format in the early 1950s, using the number of times a record was played on jukeboxes to compose a weekly list for broadcast. KDWA (1460 AM/97.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a hyperlocal News/ Talk format, licensed to Hastings, Minnesota. The station is currently owned by K & M Broadcasting, Inc. and features national news programming from the USA Radio Network at the top of each hour. Locally, KDWA is especially known for its coverage of local news and high school sports for both Hastings and Prescott. History KDWA began broadcasting on October 24, 1963.
