KDWA
KDWA (1460 AM/97.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a hyperlocal News/Talk format, licensed to Hastings, Minnesota. The station is currently owned by K & M Broadcasting, Inc. and features national news programming from the USA Radio Network at the top of each hour. Locally, KDWA is especially known for its coverage of local news and high school sports for both Hastings and Prescott. History KDWA began broadcasting on October 24, 1963. It was founded by John McKane, a former editor for the Hastings Star Gazette. The station's first news director, Dave Baudoin, became the majority co-owner in 1968. In 1971, KDWA was allowed to broadcast at night, at a reduced wattage output. Previously, the station (like many AM stations at the time) would sign on at sunrise and sign off at sunset. KQPR
KQPR (96.1 FM, "Power 96") is a radio station broadcasting a classic rock/full service format. Licensed to Albert Lea, Minnesota, United States, the station serves the Albert Lea-Austin area. The station is currently owned by Daniel and Barbara Massman, through licensee D&Z Media, LLC. History KQPR first went on the air on August 14, 1989. Sometime in the 1990s, it became a satellite station of KQCL, which originates out of Faribault. On December 13, 2001, KQPR began broadcasting independently again from its own studios in Albert Lea, its city of license. On March 29, 2004, KQPR increased its effective radiated power from 5,000 to 25,000 watts. In August 2018, it was announced that Hometown Broadcasting was selling KQPR to D&Z Media. Hastings, Minnesota
Hastings is a city mostly in Dakota County, Minnesota, of which it is the county seat, with a portion in Washington County, Minnesota. It is near the confluence of the Mississippi, Vermillion, and St. Croix Rivers. Its population was 22,154 at the 2020 census. It is named for the first elected governor of Minnesota, Henry Hastings Sibley. The advantages of Hastings's location that led to its original growth are that it is well-drained, provides a good riverboat port, and is close to a hydropower resource at the falls of the Vermillion River. Other sites closer to the river confluence are either too swampy (Dakota County) or too hilly (Washington County and Pierce County, Wisconsin). The ''Hastings Star Gazette'' was an American, English language newspaper in Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota. The Hastings Gazette started publication in 1857. The Hastings Star began publishing as a competitive newspaper in 1977. It was under the ownership of Mike O'Connor and Arlin Albright (later sold to Forum Communications). The Hastings Star purchased the Hastings Gazette in 1984 and the publication became known as the Hastings Star Gazette. The paper was published weekly on Thursday and circulation of 3,618 in 2019. The ''Star Gazette'' was a member of the Minnesota Newspaper Association. In 2014, the newspaper won association awards for General Excellence, Best Use of Photography and Typography and Design. Albert Lea, Minnesota
Albert Lea is a city in Freeborn County, in southern Minnesota. It is the county seat. Its population was 18,492 at the 2020 census. The city is at the junction of Interstates 35 and 90, about south of the Twin Cities. It is on the shores of Fountain Lake, Pickerel Lake, Albert Lea Lake, Goose Lake, School Lake, and Lake Chapeau. Fountain Lake and Albert Lea Lake are part of the Shell Rock River flowage. The city's early growth was based on agriculture, farming support services and manufacturing, and it was a significant rail center. At one time it was the site of Cargill's headquarters. Prescott, Wisconsin
Prescott is a city in Pierce County, Wisconsin at the confluence of the St. Croix River and Mississippi River. The population was 4,258 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in the county after River Falls, and the largest entirely within Pierce County.
