Naples Grand Prix
The Grand Prix of Naples was an auto racing event, held in Posillipo, outside Napoli. In its original incarnation, it began in 1934. Known as the ''Coppa Principessa di Piemonte'' in honor of Marie-José of Belgium, it continued from the same event held in 1933 in the Circuito Province Meridionale. It was held again from 1937 to 1939, although from 1938 it was purely a Voiturette race and attracted all-Maserati entries. After World War II it was restarted as the ''Gran Premio di Napoli'', starting in 1948. The race took place at the ''Circuito di Posillipo'', going along the Via A. Manzoni and Via Nuova Parco. Starting in Formula Two regulations, but from 1954 it became either a sports car race or a non-Championship Formula One race. It was last held in 1962. In 1998, the Naples circuit received the Rievocazione Storica Gran Premio di Napoli (Grand Prix of Naples Historic Revival). The name ''Gran Premio di Napoli'' now refers to a cycling event. Ferrari 500
The Ferrari 500 was a Formula 2 racing car designed by Aurelio Lampredi and used by Ferrari in and , when the World Championship was run to F2 regulations. Racing history For 1952, the FIA announced that Grand Prix races counting towards the World Championship of Drivers would be run to Formula 2 specification rather than to Formula 1, after the withdrawal of Alfa Romeo from the sport. Ferrari were the only team to have a car specifically designed for the new formula. The car was powered by an inline four-cylinder engine which was mounted behind the front axle, improving weight distribution. Alberto Ascari used the car to win his first world championship, winning all but one race with the simple 500. The race he missed was because he was driving the 4.5-litre Ferrari at the Indianapolis 500, however Ferrari won the race he was absent from as well. The XVII Grand Prix d'Albi was a motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 29 May 1955 at Circuit Les Planques, Albi. The race was run over 105 laps of the circuit, and was won by French driver André Simon in a Maserati 250F. Simon also set pole and fastest lap. Alta Car And Engineering Company
The Alta Car and Engineering Company was a British sports and racing car manufacturer, commonly known simply as Alta. Their cars contested five FIA World Championship races between 1950 and 1952, as well as Grand Prix events prior to this. They also supplied engines to a small number of other constructors, most notably the Connaught and HWM teams. Early history The company was founded by engineer Geoffrey Taylor (1903–1966) in Surbiton, Surrey, and produced its first automobile in 1929. Alta's first vehicle was a sports car powered by a 1.1L engine, featuring an aluminium block, wet liners, and shaft-driven twin overhead camshafts, which Taylor designed himself. Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM) is the world's longest established Aston Martin business, having acquired the franchise in 1951. As a racing car constructor, HWM competed in Formula One and Formula Two, and in sports car racing. Motor Racing Hersham and Walton Motors was founded in 1938 by John Heath, an excellent race driver and talented engineer. Heath was joined by George Abecassis in 1946. Together, they moved the business into a building based on New Zealand Avenue in Walton on Thames which was previously used by Vickers during the war as part of their aircraft construction facility. Edward N. "Ted" Whiteaway (1 November 1928 – 18 October 1995) was a British racing driver from England, who raced from 1951 to 1963. His single World Championship Formula One entry was at the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix in his privately entered HWM, but he failed to qualify. He also competed in some non-Championship Formula One races. At Le Mans in 1959 he teamed up with John Turner in Mrs. Waugh's ACE Bristol. They won the 2 litre class and came 7th overall. Roberto Casimiro Mieres (3 December 1924 – 26 January 2012) was a racing driver from Mar del Plata, Argentina. He participated in 17 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 7 June 1953. He scored a total of 13 championship points. Formula One and sports car racer Mieres competed in a number of different sports, including rowing, sailing, rugby, and tennis. He first took up motorsport in Argentina with an MG, which he later replaced with a Mercedes-Benz SSK and then a Bugatti formerly driven by Achille Varzi, using the latter to win the Argentine sports car championship. As a reward, he was invited to join his compatriots Juan Manuel Fangio and José Froilán González on a trip to Europe, during which he finished fourth in the 1950 Circuit des Nations in Geneva driving a Maserati 4CLT/48 Formula Two car. Ottorino Volonterio (7 December 1917 – 10 March 2003) was a racing driver from Switzerland. Biography A member of Swiss nobility, he was born in Orselina and was trained as a lawyer, before he began participating in sports car racing.
