The 1955 Chatham Cup was the 28th annual nationwide knockout association football, football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with regional associations each holding separate qualifying rounds. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve, also known as the Cello Basin Reserve for sponsorship reasons, and commonly referred to as the Basin, is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It is used for Test cricket, Test matches, and is the main home ground of the Wellington Firebirds First-class cricket, first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have listed status with Heritage New Zealand, in recognition of being the oldest first-class cricket ground in the country. Historically, the ground has also been used for events other than cricket, such as association football matches, concerts and cultural events. Wairarapa United
Wairarapa United Football Club is based in Masterton, New Zealand. WUFC Women's Firsts are the region's premiere senior female team who finished 2nd on the table in 2024 in the Capital Football Women's 1 League, gaining promotion to Cap Prem in 2025 due to a restructure of grades. In 2025 the club will field one additional women's side in the Wairarapa local league as well as junior U12 team in the Wellington Junior league. The club also fields an under-19 side competing successfully in the national Napier tournament. Club history The club was formed by the merger of Masterton and Carterton in 1996; a composite team that started to dominate Women's football winning the league in 2000 and 2002. The team was coached by Wendi Henderson and competed in the New Zealand Knockout Cup, finishing runners up in 1999 and 2000. Chatham Cup
The Chatham Cup is New Zealand's premier Single-elimination tournament, knockout tournament in men's association football. It is held annually, with the final contested in September. The current champions of the Chatham Cup are Wellington Olympic, who defeated Auckland City on penalties in the final. History The Chatham Cup is contested by teams from throughout New Zealand, and has been held annually since 1923 with the exception of 1937, 1941–44 and 2020. Typically between 120 and 150 teams take part, with extra time and penalty shoot-outs used to decide matches which end in ties. In the past, replays were used, and in the early years of the competition the number of corners won during a game decided tied matches. Roslyn-Wakari AFC
Roslyn-Wakari Association Football Club is an association football club based in Dunedin, New Zealand. They compete in the Southern Premier League. History The club's history began in 1888 when the Wakari Football Association first played in the local Dunedin league. This was only 44 years after the foundation of Dunedin, and the club is one of the oldest existing football clubs in the country (the oldest, North Shore United, was founded in 1886). The Wakari AFC consisted of 14 members with 11 or 12 playing members. The first committee included Sir Robert Stout (Premier of NZ 1884–1897) as its president. The club obtained a farmer's paddock and a ditch was dug as the perimeter for the pitch, outside the ditch the ball was out. In 1890 the Wakari AFC changed its name to Roslyn AFC. 1940 Chatham Cup
The 1940 Chatham Cup was the 17th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand, and the last such competition before the suspension of the Chatham Cup due to World War II. The competition resumed in 1945 as hostilities were drawing to a close. The competition was run on a regional basis, with regional associations each holding separate qualifying rounds. Teams taking part in the final rounds included Ponsonby, Comrades (Auckland), Glen Massey, Waterside, Hamilton Wanderers, Nomads, Millerton Thistle and Mosgiel. Waterside (Wellington)
Waterside Karori AFC is an association football club in Karori, a suburb of Wellington, New Zealand. They currently play in the Capital Football Central League. History Waterside Karori was formed in 1987 when Karori Swifts merged with Waterside. These two clubs had contrasting origins: Swifts were founded in 1894 from a Sunday School, and Waterside were founded in 1921 by dock workers. The current Waterside Karori club is still nicknamed Wharfies. Waterside were originally based at Kaiwharawhara at Wellington's waterfront, a location still used by Waterside Karori. Waterside was a successful club at a national level in New Zealand in the 1930s and 1940s, winning the Chatham Cup in 1938, 1939, 1940 and 1947. A hat-trick or hat trick is the achievement of a generally positive feat three times in a match, or another achievement based on the number three. Origin The term first appeared in 1858 in cricket, to describe H. H. Stephenson taking three Wicket#Dismissing a batsman, wickets with three consecutive delivery (cricket), deliveries. Fans held a collection for Stephenson, and presented him with a hat bought with the proceeds. The term was used in print for the first time in 1865 in the Essex Chronicle, ''Chelmsford Chronicle''.
