1929 Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship
The 1929 Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship was the 20th staging of the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board. The final was played on 29 September 1929 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork, between Ballincollig and Buttevant, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Ballincollig won the match by 2–02 to 0–05 to claim their second championship title overall and a first championship title in 17 years. Ballincollig GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in the town of Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA board and it fields Gaelic football and hurling teams in Muskerry divisional competitions. As of 2010, the club was participating in the Cork Senior Football Championship and the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. History The GAA itself was founded in 1884 and the first Cork County Board was formed in 1886 with 21 teams from across the county. While Ballincollig were in this initial 21, it was not until 1887 that the first record of entry into the championship from a team from Carrigrohane, with a late submission. Buttevant GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Buttevant, County Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884 and fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. The club is a member of the Avondhu divisional board. Buttevant GAA are commonly known as "the bumble bees". History Founded in 1884 by Fr. It is the fourth tier overall in the entire Cork hurling championship system. The Cork Intermediate Championship was introduced in 1909 as a competition that would bridge the gap between the senior grade and the junior grade. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork hurling. In its current format, the Cork Intermediate A Championship begins in July. The Cork Athletic Grounds was a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium where major hurling and football matches were played. Situated in the Ballintemple area of Cork in Ireland, it was the home of Cork GAA between 1904 and 1974. The stadium was demolished in 1974 and replaced by Páirc Uí Chaoimh. History In late 1902, an attempt was made by the Cork County Board of the GAA to provide Cork city with a dedicated athletic stadium. A new company, the Cork Athletic Grounds Committee Ltd., was established under the chairmanship of James Crosbie. The county board invested £30 in the venture and a member of the board was appointed as a director. The subscriptions for the share capital reached sufficient funds, and in early 1903 a lease for six acres was drawn up between the Cork Agricultural Society, the Cork Corporation and the Cork County Board treasurer John FitzGerald.
