Their leader, whose name was recorded by the French as Pa-Trang-Loeng, united multiple diverse tribes, such as the Phnong and the Mnong people, Mnong, the latter of which Loeng was a part of. Initially beginning with a series of tribal attacks upon French outposts in Kratié province, Kratié, the conflict would escalate in 1914 with the assassination of explorer First Class Counselor Henri Maître (explorer), Henri Maître at the hands of Trang. The insurgents established the Nam Nung base, which consisted of thousands of kilometres of land. The war ended with a French victory during the Siege of Nam Nung in the May of 1935. References

Indigenous Peoples
There is no generally accepted definition of Indigenous peoples, although in the 21st century the focus has been on self-identification, cultural difference from other groups in a state, a special relationship with their traditional territory, and an experience of subjugation and discrimination under a dominant cultural model. Estimates of the population of Indigenous peoples range from 250 million to 600 million. There are some 5,000 distinct Indigenous peoples spread across every inhabited climate zone and inhabited continent of the world. Although many Indigenous peoples have experienced colonization by settlers from European nations, Indigenous identity is not determined by Western colonization. The rights of Indigenous peoples are outlined in national legislation, treaties and international law ...

French Colonization
The French colonial empire () comprised the overseas colonies, protectorates, and mandate territories that came under French rule from the 16th century onward. A distinction is generally made between the "First French colonial empire", that existed until 1814, by which time most of it had been lost or sold, and the "Second French colonial empire", which began with the conquest of Algiers in 1830. On the eve of World War I, France's colonial empire was the second-largest in the world after the British Empire. France began to establish colonies in the Americas, the Caribbean, and India in the 16th century but lost most of its possessions after its defeat in the Seven Years' War. The North American possessions were lost to Britain and Spain, but Spain later returned Louisiana to France in 1800. The territory was then sold to the United States in 1803. France rebuilt a new empire mostly after 1850, concentrating chiefly in Africa as well as Indochina and the South Pacific. As ...
