Alexander Cameron Rutherford
Alexander Cameron Rutherford (February 2, 1857 – June 11, 1941) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the first premier of Alberta from 1905 to 1910. Born in Ormond, Canada West, he studied and practiced law in Ottawa before he moved with his family to the North-West Territories in 1895. Besides his work as lawyer, he began a political career that would see him first serve as member of the North-West Legislative Assembly and then as Liberal MLA, Liberal party leader, and premier of Alberta. He lost the premiership in 1910 due to the Alberta and Great Waterways Railway scandal and his Legislature seat in 1913. He later was prominent in the administration of the University of Alberta, beside which he and his family lived for decades. Sir Louis-Amable Jetté, (; 15 January 1836 – 5 May 1920) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, judge, and professor who served as lieutenant governor of Quebec and chief justice of the Court of King's Bench. Biography He was born in L'Assomption, Lower Canada (now Quebec) on January 15, 1836, son of Amable Jette and Caroline Goffreau. After receiving a classical education at the Collège de L’Assomption, he studied law at the Collège Sainte-Marie, before being called to the bar in 1857. He then practiced law in Montreal, notably participating in the Guibord case. A Liberal, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the riding of Montreal East in 1872, defeating Sir George-Étienne Cartier. He was re-elected in 1874. Donald Alexander MacKinnon (22 February 1863 – 20 April 1928) was a Canadian teacher, lawyer, politician, author, and the eighth Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1904 to 1910. Born in Uigg, Prince Edward Island, the son of William and Catherine Nicholson Mackinnon, MacKinnon attended Uigg grammar school and started teaching when he was 14. He later received a first-class teaching licence from the Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. In 1882, he started articling with the Charlottetown barrister Malcolm McLeod. From 1885 to 1887, he attended Dalhousie Law School where he received a Bachelor of Laws degree. He was called to the Bar an attorney in 1887 and a barrister in 1888. Sir William Mortimer Clark (also spelled Clarke), KC (May 24, 1836 – August 10, 1915) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Life and career Born in 1836 in Aberdeen, Scotland, Clark was educated at Marischal College and the University of Edinburgh. He came to Canada in 1859 and was called to the bar of Upper Canada in 1861. A prominent social activist, he became a bank director and authored a number of articles on travel. In 1866, he married Helen Gordon. Clarke was appointed the ninth Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in 1903. He supported education and hospitals during his mandate, and served until 1908.
