Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). CHSN-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 102.3 FM in Estevan, Saskatchewan. The station is currently owned & operated by Golden West Broadcasting and plays a hot adult contemporary format under the brand name ''Sun 102''. History Golden West received approval from the CRTC on April 26, 2001, and the station was launched in November of the same year. CHSN was the first sister station to CJSL. At launch, the station had an adult contemporary format. CHSN's format, branding and call sign were all adopted from a radio station in Saskatoon whose owner, Rawlco Communications, dropped them to launch a new active rock station, CJDJ. CKY-FM (102.3 MHz) is a Canadian FM radio station broadcasting in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The station airs a hot adult contemporary format branded as ''KiSS 102.3''. The station is owned by Rogers Sports & Media which also owns sister station CITI-FM. CKY's studios are located in Osborne Village south of Downtown Winnipeg, while its transmitter is located at Duff Roblin Provincial Park near Saint Germain. History CKY has been the call sign of three radio stations in Winnipeg. The original CKY was formed in 1923 by the Government of Manitoba and operated by the Manitoba Telephone System. CKXG-FM (102.3 FM, ''97.5 K-Rock'') is a radio station in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts a classic rock format, although some 1990s and 2000s rock songs have recently become part of the mix. History The station launched in the 1960s as CJON-1 at 680 kHz. In 1977, after Don Jamieson bought out Geoff Stirling's interest in Radio CJYQ-930 Ltd, CJCN was renamed CIYQ. CKWV-FM (''102.3 The Wave'') is a Canadian radio station located in Nanaimo, British Columbia. It broadcasts on 102.3 FM and is owned by Island Radio, a division of the Jim Pattison Group. History CKWV first signed on-air on May 24, 1949 as CHUB, on its original frequency of 1570 AM with a 250-watt transmitter, with its studio in the Malaspina Hotel on Front Street in downtown Nanaimo; its first program was a broadcast of the annual Empire Day Parade. CKRX-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts an adult hits format at 102.3 FM in Fort Nelson, British Columbia. The station is branded as '' Bounce 102.3'' and is owned by Bell Media. The station originally began broadcasting on November 21, 1967 as CFNL operating at 590 AM, until the move to the FM dial was made in 1997. CKNO-FM (102.3 FM, ''102.3 Now! Radio'') is a radio station in Edmonton. Owned by the Jim Pattison Group, it broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format. As of Feb 28, 2021, CKNO is the number one-listened-to radio station in the Edmonton market according to a PPM data report released by Numeris. History The station received approval by the CRTC on October 17, 2008, and officially launched on February 23, 2010. On July 10, 2014, Rawlco announced the sale of CKNO and sister station CIUP to the Jim Pattison Group. Since the acquisition, Pattison has also extended the ''Now!'' format and branding (which carries a focus on topical discussions) to sister stations in Winnipeg and Vancouver. CKJJ-FM is a Christian music radio station, broadcasting at 102.3 FM in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. The station began broadcasting in 2003 and is owned by United Christian Broadcasters Canada (UCB). Transmitters The station also previously had a rebroadcaster in Chatham, which was converted to a new originating station, CKGW, in 2007. In 2007, transmitters were added in Cobourg (100.9 MHz) and Brockville (99.9 MHz). On September 22, 2006, UCB was denied a licence for 106.5 MHz at Foymount. On January 29, 2009, UCB applied for a broadcasting licence for 1480 kHz in Newmarket, which was the former frequency occupied by CKDX up until the 1990s; it is unknown if this application was approved. CINQ-FM is a multilingual Canadian radio station located in Montreal, Quebec. It broadcasts on 102.3 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 1,285 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 2,335 watts ( class A). Its studios are located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal. The station operates under a community radio licence and offers varied programming in seven different languages whereas all programmes are produced and animated by volunteers.
