Éric Fournier (born 13 April 1965) is a French politician serving as mayor of Chamonix since 2008. He concurrently serves as president of Vallée de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc since 2010. He is a member of the Regional Council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes The Regional Council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (french: Conseil régional d'Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) is the deliberative assembly of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeast-central France. Chamonix
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc ( frp, Chamôni), more commonly known as Chamonix, is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France. It was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. In 2019, it had a population of 8,640. Situated to the north of Mont Blanc, between the peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges and the notable Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix is one of the oldest ski resorts in France. The Chamonix commune is popular with skiers and mountain enthusiasts. The French legislative elections took place on 9 and 16 June 2002 to elect the 12th National Assembly of the Fifth Republic, in a context of political crisis.
