Åsane (municipality)
Åsane is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1904 until 1972. The municipality encompassed the northern part of the Bergen Peninsula, roughly corresponding to the present-day borough of Åsane in the city-municipality of Bergen. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Eidsvåg. The main church for the municipality was Åsane Church. Historically, the area was called ''Aasene'', but with spelling reforms in the Norwegian language, the modern spelling has been ''Åsane'' since about 1920. History The large parish of Hammer existed for many centuries and within the parish existed the annex of ''Aasene''. Midhordland
Midhordland or Midthordland is a traditional district in the Vestlandet region of Norway. It consists of the central-west portion of the old Hordaland county (now part of Vestland county), mostly including the islands and coastal fjord areas surrounding (and including) the Bergen Peninsula. It includes the city on Bergen and the surrounding municipalities of Askøy, Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, and Øygarden. The region is dominated by its largest city, Bergen, which is also the second largest city in the country. There are no administrative functions for this district, it is simply a cultural and historical area. Until 2014, the Church of Norway had a deanery called Midhordland prosti, but that has since been dissolved and its churches transferred to other neighboring deaneries. Sørfjorden (Osterøy)
Sørfjorden is a long fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord flows around the west and south sides of the island of Osterøy, going through the municipalities of Osterøy, Bergen, and Vaksdal. The fjord begins at the village of Vaksdal where the Veafjorden flows into the Sørfjorden, it then heads west and then north before emptying into the Osterfjorden. Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Kjeld Langeland
Kjeld Langeland (9 August 1920 – 25 January 1973) was a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. He was born in Bergen. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Hordaland in 1965, and was re-elected on two occasions. Towards the end of his second term, he died and was replaced by Sigrid Utkilen. Arna (municipality)
Arna is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1964 until 1972. It encompassed the northeastern part of the Bergen Peninsula, along the Sørfjorden, bordering the city of Bergen across the mountains to the west. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Indre Arna. The municipality stretched from the village of Ytre Arna to Trengereid along the coast and then inland about to the Espeland area.
