Årnset or Rissa is the administrative centre of Indre Fosen Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the north shore of the lake Botn (Trøndelag), Botn about south of the village of Hasselvika and about north of the villages of Stadsbygd and Askjem. The village has a population (2024) of 1,250 and a population density of . Rissa Church, Rein Church, and Rein Abbey, Norway, Rein Abbey are all located in and around Årnset. Prior to 2020, the village was the administrative centre of the old Rissa Municipality (which is why the village is known as Rissa). Rein Church
Rein Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Indre Fosen Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Reinsgrenda, which is situated just south of the village of Årnset. It is one of the churches for the Rissa parish which is part of the Fosen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The red, wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1932 by the architect Helge Thiis. The church seats about 400 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1433, but the church was likely built during the 13th century. The first church was a stave church. By the mid-1600s, the church was described as "dilapidated". In 1649, the old church was torn down and replaced with a new building on the same site. Rissa Church
Rissa Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Indre Fosen Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Leira, just northeast of the village of Årnset. It is one of the churches for the Rissa parish which is part of the Fosen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The gray, stone church was built in a long church style in 1888 using plans drawn up by the architect Carl Julius Bergstrøm (1828-1898). The church seats about 650 people. History The church for the Rissa parish was Rein Church for many centuries. In 1888, the parish decided to tear down the old church and to build a new church at Årnset, about northeast of the old church. The new church would be called ''Rissa Church''. This new church was built out of stone and it was consecrated on 26 October 1888. Botn (nicknamed: ''Rissa-Botn'') is an inland fjord in Indre Fosen Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It flows through a short, small river into the Sundsbukta, a small bay off the Trondheimsfjorden. The village of Årnset lies on the north shore of Botn. Hydrography and water quality The extraordinarily shallow, narrow, and long inlet restrains the water exchange severely. The daily tidal amplitude is in the order of centimetres, about 1/10 of the tidal amplitude of the supplying Trondheimsfjord. The shallow river connecting Botn to the Trondheimsfjord blocks out more than half of the tidal wave, making the moon-phase driven tidal flood height cycles the primal driving force for the internal water level, with an abnormally small neap flood effect (zero has been observed during lowest neap tides and meteorologically suppressed sea level). Rein Abbey, Norway
Rein Abbey () was a Roman Catholic religious house for women located in Rissa on the Fosen peninsula to the northwest of Trondheim in Trøndelag, Norway. History Rein Abbey was founded in or shortly after 1226. It was built on a prominent elevation in an otherwise flat landscape on the ancestral estate of Duke Skule Bårdsson, possibly in fulfilment of a vow after his recovery from an illness. It was dedicated to Saint Andrew. The first abbess was Duke Skule's half-sister, Sigrid Bårdsdatter. His daughter, Queen Margret of Norway, wife of King Håkon Håkonsson, spent her last years there. Many other women of the aristocracy also entered it. There is no definite information on what order it belonged to, but it may well have followed the Rule of St. Augustine. Stadsbygd or Askjem is a village in Indre Fosen Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located at the southern end of the Fosen peninsula in a wide, flat valley along the north side of the Trondheimsfjord. The village of Rørvika, Trøndelag, Rørvika lies about to the east, and that is where the Flakk–Rørvik Ferry links the area with the city of Trondheim (city), Trondheim to the southeast. The municipal centre of Årnset lies about to the northwest. The village has a population (2024) of 319 and a population density of .
