Meccano Set
The Meccano Set is an overhead gantry located above a busy controlled at-grade road intersection located at the boundary between and in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The intersection is a junction where the Hume Highway, Henry Lawson Drive and Woodville Road intersect. In December 1962 a large overhead gantry with directional signs and traffic lights, was erected by the Department of Main Roads. It was quickly nicknamed the Meccano Set with reference to the children's construction toy Meccano. Meccano
Meccano is a brand of model construction system created in 1898 by Frank Hornby in Liverpool, England. The system consists of reusable metal strips, plates, angle girders, wheels, axles and gears, and plastic parts that are connected using nuts and bolts. It enables the building of working models and mechanical devices. In 1913, a very similar construction set was introduced in the United States under the brand name Erector. In 2000, Meccano bought the Erector brand and unified its presence on all continents. In 2013, the Meccano brand was acquired by the Canadian toy company Spin Master. Meccano maintains a manufacturing facility in Calais, France. Cumberland Highway
The Cumberland Highway is a long urban highway located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The highway links the Pacific Highway (A1/B83) and Pacific Motorway ( M1) at Pearces Corner, Wahroonga in the northeast with the Hume Highway (A22/A28) at Liverpool in the southwest. The entire length of Cumberland Highway is designated route A28. The name of the highway is derived from the Cumberland Plain and Cumberland County. A gantry (also known as a sign holder, road sign holder, sign structure or road sign structure) is a traffic sign assembly in which signs are mounted or railway signals are supported on an overhead support. They also often contain the apparatus for traffic monitoring systems and cameras, or open road tolling systems.
