There is debate as to whether metalcore is a fusion genre, a subgenre, or a genre of its own. Metalcore is not universally accepted in some traditional heavy metal and hardcore circles. There has been debate and disagreement over whether metalcore is an authentic subgenre of heavy metal, and some in the heavy metal community do not recognize it as a "true" form of metal.
