Unearth
Unearth is an American metalcore band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1998. The group consists of lead guitarist Buz McGrath, vocalist Trevor Phipps, bassist Chris O'Toole, drummer Mike Justian and rhythm guitarist Peter Layman. They are currently signed to Century Media Records and have released eight studio albums. Their most recent studio album, ''The Wretched; the Ruinous'', was released on May 5, 2023. History Formation and ''The Stings of Conscience'' (1998–2002) Unearth was formed by Buz McGrath, Mike Rudberg, Chris Rybicki and Ken Susi in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998. The band began as Point 04 (containing McGrath, Rudberg, and Rybicki), and Trevor Phipps was recruited soon afterwards. The band attempted to recruit Phipps while he recovered from appendicitis, but Phipps was reluctant to join. The Wretched; The Ruinous
''The Wretched; the Ruinous'' is the eighth studio album by American metalcore band Unearth. The album was released on May 5, 2023, through Century Media Records and was produced by Will Putney. It is the first Unearth album to feature drummer Mike Justian since the band's third effort, ''III: In the Eyes of Fire'' (2006), after which he left the band and rejoined in 2022. Background and promotion On January 24, 2023, Unearth released the title track "The Wretched; The Ruinous" along with its music video. A day later, they published the music video for the title track. On March 3, the band unveiled "Mother Betrayal" and its corresponding music video. At the same time, the band announced the album itself and release date, whilst also revealing the album cover and the track list. Derek Kerswill
Derek M. Kerswill (born April 5, 1973 in Wilmington, Delaware) is an American musician best known for his drumming in the bands Unearth, Seemless, Kingdom of Sorrow, and multiple fill-ins/studio projects. While no longer on the road, he continues to play in several bands in the greater Boston area. Biography Derek has been playing drums since the age of 9. He is completely self-taught and also writes music on guitar and bass for his band Seemless. His resume boasts some of metals top visionaries, including most recently, Massachusetts based metal outfit Unearth and underground sludge-core super group Kingdom of Sorrow. Kingdom of Sorrow's debut album was released in February 2008, debuting at #131 on Billboard Top 200. He has also spent time in Shadows Fall, Icepick, and a host of studio work that has demonstrated his diverse playing, while always maintaining a style all his own. ''The Oncoming Storm'' is the second studio album by American metalcore band Unearth. It was released on June 29, 2004 through Metal Blade Records. The album was produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, and was their first major release through Metal Blade Records. This was also their first album with drummer Mike Justian and bassist John "Slo" Maggard, replacing Mike Rudberg and Chris "Rover" Rybicki respectively. After its release, the album entered the Billboard album charts at number 105, selling 13,285 copies. A special edition of the album was released on October 18, 2005. Metalcore is a broadly defined fusion genre combining elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk, originating in the 1990s United States and becoming popular in the 2000s. ''Endless'' is the second EP by American metalcore band Unearth, released in September 2002. Overview ''Endless'' is the band's last original release under Eulogy Recordings before moving to Metal Blade Records for their later releases, and is the last record with drummer Mike Rudberg and bassist Chris Rybicki, the latter featured in the 2000 demo version of "My Desire". Buz McGrath and John Maggard played bass on the other three tracks, which were recorded by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. The EP was re-released as a vinyl (7") by Confined Records and only contains the tracks "Endless" and "My Desire". The entire EP also appears on their 2005 compilation album Our Days of Eulogy. Poison the Well is an American metalcore band from Miami, Florida who were originally active between 1997 and 2010. Lead guitarist Ryan Primack and drummer Chris Hornbrook are the only remaining founding members (though both left for various stints in the late 1990s), with long-serving vocalist Jeffrey Moreira being featured on all five of their studio albums. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist Jesse Leach, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, bassist Mike D'Antonio, and drummer Justin Foley.
