Zoo (magazine)
''Zoo'' was a British (and formerly an Australian and South African) lad's mag published weekly by Bauer Media Group in the United Kingdom. It was launched on 29 January 2004, and for a time was the UK's only men's weekly after the similar and rival magazine '' Nuts'' closed in April 2014. On 17 November 2015, ''Zoo'' announced on its website that it would be suspending publication. ''Zoo'' consisted of a mix of comedy news, sports commentary, photos of glamour models, jokes (of the pub joke style), an entertainments guide (covering TV, cinema, video/computer games and music), fashion/grooming and comical/rude pictures sent in by readers. Lad Culture
Lad culture (also the new lad, laddism) was a media-driven, principally British and Irish subculture of the 1990s and early 2000s. The image of the "lad"—or "new lad"—was that of a generally middle class figure espousing attitudes typically attributed to the working classes. The subculture involved heterosexual young men assuming an anti-intellectual position, shunning cultural pursuits and sensitivity in favour of drinking, sport, sex and sexism. Lad culture was diverse and popular involving literature, magazines, film, music and television, with ironic humour being a defining trope. Principally understood at the time as a male backlash against feminism and the pro-feminist "new man", the discourse around the new lad represented some of the earliest mass public discussion of how heterosexual masculinity is constructed. ''Ralph'' was a monthly Australian men's magazine that was published by ACP Magazines, a division of PBL Media between August 1997 and July 2010. The format and style of ''Ralph'' was similar to other men's magazines, such as ''Maxim'' and '' Loaded''. Content Similar to its rivals ''FHM'' and ''Zoo Weekly'', ''Ralph'' published photos of scantily-clad models and female celebrities, without revealing their genitals or nipples. This allowed for the magazine to be sold in the lifestyle sections of newsagencies, and in other retailers such as department stores and supermarkets. The magazine featured a number of recurring characters, such as Ralph Man, Frank Muddler and Gourmet Gav. Gourmet Gav, who would take on outrageous eating challenges, would earn celebrity beyond the pages of the magazine thanks to the development of Ralph TV. ''Zip'' was a weekly men's magazine published in the United Kingdom. It was launched on 1 March 2013 as a sister title to '' Loaded'' and was published by Blue Publishing for nine issues before being sold to OOHYEAH Publishing. It relaunched in September 2013. The original owners of ''Zip'' launched the title to take on rival titles ''Zoo'' and '' Nuts'' which were aimed at the same demographic, and had similar content. Loaded '' Loaded'' launched its weekly sister title, ''ZIP'', after failed bids to acquire rival titles ''Nuts'' and ''Zoo''. Afrikaans (, ) is a West Germanic language that evolved in the Dutch Cape Colony from the Dutch vernacular of Holland proper (i.e., the Hollandic dialect) used by Dutch, French, and German settlers and their enslaved people.
