Ziegelbrücke is a village in Switzerland. Ziegelbrücke is shared by the municipalities of Niederurnen in the canton of Glarus and Schänis in the canton of St. Gallen. Geography and political situation The village of Ziegelbrücke is divided by the Linth into two halves: The northern part, including Ziegelbrücke railway station, is located in the municipality of Schänis in the canton of St. Gallen. The southern part, on the other side of the Linth, is located in the canton of Glarus in the municipality of Glarus Nord. History and Economics At the former Roman tariff station, near the ''Maag'' and Linth rivers between Lake Walen and Lake Zürich, a Mercury (mythology) statue was found. Ziegelbrücke Railway Station
Ziegelbrücke railway station (german: Bahnhof Ziegelbrücke) is a junction station in the village of Ziegelbrücke in Switzerland. Whilst the village is shared between the municipality of Glarus Nord, in the canton of Glarus, and the municipality of Schänis, in the canton of St. Gallen, the station is located in the ''Gemarkung'' of Schänis, where it is the larger of two railway stations (the other being Schänis railway station). Opened in 1875, the station is owned and operated by the Swiss Federal Railways. It is one of the southern termini of the Lake Zurich left bank railway line, a main line that links Zürich Hauptbahnhof with Ziegelbrücke and Näfels. From Ziegelbrücke, the main line continues, as the Ziegelbrücke–Sargans railway, towards its ultimate destination, Chur. The S2 is a railway service of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) transportation network, and is one of the network's services connecting the canton of Zürich with the cantons of Schwyz and St. Gallen. Niederurnen is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Niederurnen is part of the municipality of Glarus Nord. Of this area, 37.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 45.9% is forested. Schänis is a municipality in the ''Wahlkreis'' (constituency) of See-Gaster in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. History Schänis is first mentioned in 972 as ''Schennines''. Until 1798 it was the capital of the Herrschaft of Gaster and until 1831 it was the capital of the District. Bilten is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Bilten is part of the municipality of Glarus Nord.
