WBHX (99.7 FM, "The Boss") is a radio station licensed to Tuckerton, New Jersey and airs a classic rock format, simulcasting WWZY 107.1 FM Long Branch. History On August 10, 1999 WBHX signed on full-time airing a mostly automated classic rock format with "Radio Rohn" in mornings and afternoons hosted by Mike Jarmus, including his Woodstock lunch show featuring music from the Woodstock period. Specialty shows included "The Dead At Midnight", "Blues Delux" and "The Dr. Demento Show". WBHX was constructed by Beach Haven Communications. On July 22, 2002, WBHX was Sold to Press for $2.75 Million. On October 2, 2002, "Radio Rohn" Did his Last Morning Show, on October 4, 2002, the station switched to an adult contemporary format known as "The Breeze". WWZY ("107.1 The Boss") is a classic rock music formatted radio station licensed to Long Branch, New Jersey. The station is simulcast on 99.7 WBHX Tuckerton, New Jersey. History 1960–1996 WWZY first went on the air on June 1, 1960 as WRLB "Radio Long Branch". At the time, the station's owner was afforded the possibility of broadcasting with 50,000 watts, but he declined, thinking that FM radio had limited potential. Therefore, the station signed on with 3,000 watts from a tower located in Long Branch, New Jersey. The studios were located adjacent to the tower. WWZY still uses the tower site, although the studios are now in Neptune, New Jersey. When the Long Branch 107.1 did not utilize 50,000 watts, the Federal Communications Commission subsequently assigned 107.1s to Briarcliff Manor, New York (north of New York City); Belvidere, New Jersey (near Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania); and Hampton Bays, New York (Long Island). In communications and electronic engineering, an intermediate frequency (IF) is a frequency to which a carrier wave is shifted as an intermediate step in transmission or reception. The intermediate frequency is created by mixing the carrier signal with a local oscillator signal in a process called heterodyning, resulting in a signal at the difference or beat frequency. Intermediate frequencies are used in superheterodyne radio receivers, in which an incoming signal is shifted to an IF for amplification before final detection is done. Its studios are located at the Bayport One complex in West Atlantic City, and its transmitter is located north of the Casino district in Atlantic City. History WZBZ's initial sign on was in 1974 as WGRF, an adult contemporary station and sister station to 1340 AM, WMID. WGRF was branded as Stereo 99.
