Old Latin
Old Latin, also known as Early, Archaic or Priscan Latin (Classical ), was the Latin language in the period roughly before 75 BC, i.e. before the age of Classical Latin. A member of the Italic languages, it descends from a common Proto-Italic language; Latino-Faliscan is likely a separate branch from Osco-Umbrian. All these languages may be relatively closely related to Venetic and possibly further to Celtic (see the Italo-Celtic hypothesis). The use of "old", "early" and "archaic" has been standard in publications of Old Latin writings since at least the 18th century. The ''langues d'oïl'' are a dialect continuum that includes standard French and its closest relatives historically spoken in the northern half of France, southern Belgium, and the Channel Islands. They belong to the larger category of Gallo-Romance languages, which also include the historical languages of east-central France and western Switzerland, southern France, portions of northern Italy, the Val d'Aran in Spain, and under certain acceptations those of Catalonia. Givet
Givet () (; ) is a commune in the Ardennes department in northern France surrounded on three sides by the Belgian border. It lies on the river Meuse where Emperor Charles V built the fortress of Charlemont. It borders the French municipalities of Fromelennes to the east and Rancennes to the south and Foisches to the southeast. The Pointe de Givet National Nature Reserve is partly located on the commune. History The town's history claims that Saint Hubert lived there in 720 and performed a miracle. The town has changed hands several times since the Roman era before becoming part of France in 1678, and was later invaded by Russians and Germans. Walloon Orthography
The Walloon language has been written using various Orthography, orthographies over its history, most notably the Feller system () and Common Walloon ( or ). The Feller system was developed to transcribe Walloon dialects by Jules Feller and was first published in 1900. In the Feller system, the same word can be spelled differently depending on dialect: the word "fish" would be spelled by a speaker who pronounces the word as (with an Voiceless postalveolar fricative, 'sh' sound), but would be spelled by a speaker who pronounces the word as (with an Voiceless glottal fricative, 'h' sound). In Common Walloon, however, the same word "fish" is always spelled , regardless of the speaker's pronunciation.
