WRBJ-TV
WRBJ-TV (channel 34) is a religious television station licensed to Magee, Mississippi, United States, serving the Jackson, Mississippi, Jackson, Hattiesburg and Meridian, Mississippi, Meridian media market, television markets as an owned-and-operated station of the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). The station's transmitter is located near Raleigh, Mississippi, in the Bienville National Forest. History WRBJ began broadcasting as a UPN affiliate via Time Warner Cable on January 5, 2006, and terrestrial television, over-the-air broadcasting began on February 8. On March 21, 2006, it was announced that WRBJ would join the new CW Television Network, and on September 18, WRBJ became a CW affiliate. The station was founded by St. Louis–based Roberts Broadcasting. Ironically, the call letters WRBJ were assigned briefly to WDBT radio (now WFOR (AM), WFOR) in Hattiesburg, the first radio station in Mississippi. The CW Network, LLC (commonly referred to as The CW or simply CW) is an American commercial terrestrial television, broadcast television television network, network which is controlled by Nexstar Media Group through a 75% ownership interest. The network's name is derived from the first letters of the names of its two founding co-owners CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Nexstar acquired a 75% controlling stake in the network on October 3, 2022, with Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery (CBS Entertainment Group and Warner Bros. Television Studios, Warner Bros. Television's respective parent companies) each retaining a 12.5% ownership stake. The CW debuted on September 18, 2006 as the successor to UPN and the WB, which had respectively shut down on September 15 and 17 of that year. WRBJ-FM (97.7 MHz) is an urban contemporary radio station in Jackson, Mississippi and licensed to Brandon, Mississippi. The station is owned and operated by Roberts Broadcasting, former owners of The CW television affiliate WRBJ. Its studios are located at The Roberts Building along State Street in Jackson, just two blocks north of the Mississippi State Capitol building, and the transmitter tower is south of Brandon. With the bankruptcy sale of all their other television stations to the Trinity Broadcasting Network and Ion Television, as of February 2014, WRBJ-FM is the only asset remaining with the formerly television-heavy company. History 20th century The station was originally paired with WRKN 970 AM in Brandon, Mississippi, with the call letters WRJH (initially standing for Roy and June Harris, who were the original owners). Roberts Broadcasting Company is a media company based in St. Louis, Missouri. It is a subsidiary of the parent company, the Roberts Companies, one of the largest African American-owned conglomerates. It is co-owned by brothers Steven and Michael Roberts. The Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN; legally Trinity Broadcasting of Texas, Inc.) is an international Christian-based broadcast television network and the world's largest religious television network. TBN solicits donations on its Web site, as cash, vehicles, or legacies.
