WRBJ-FM
WRBJ-FM (97.7 MHz) is an urban contemporary radio station in Jackson, Mississippi, but licensed to Brandon, Mississippi. The station is owned and operated by Roberts Broadcasting, former owners of The CW television affiliate WRBJ. Its studios are located at The Roberts Building along State Street in Jackson, just two blocks north of the Mississippi State Capitol building, and the transmitter tower is south of Brandon. With the bankruptcy sale of all their other television stations to the Trinity Broadcasting Network and Ion Television, as of February 2014, WRBJ-FM is the only asset remaining with the formerly television-heavy company. Station history The station was originally paired with WRKN 970 AM in Brandon, Mississippi, with the call letters WRJH (initially standing for Roy and June Harris, who were the original owners). WRBJ-TV (channel 34) is a religious television station licensed to Magee, Mississippi, United States, serving the Jackson, Hattiesburg and Meridian television markets as an owned-and-operated station of the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). The station's transmitter is located near Raleigh, Mississippi, in the Bienville National Forest. History WRBJ began broadcasting as a UPN affiliate via Time Warner Cable on January 5, 2006, and over-the-air broadcasting began on February 8. On March 21, 2006, it was announced that WRBJ would join the new CW Television Network, and on September 18, WRBJ became a CW affiliate. The station was founded by St. Louis-based Roberts Broadcasting. Ironically, the call letters WRBJ were assigned briefly to WDBT radio (now WFOR) in Hattiesburg, the first radio station in Mississippi. Brandon is a city in and the county seat of Rankin County, Mississippi, United States. It was incorporated on December 19, 1831. The population was 21,705 at the 2010 census. Brandon is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is located east of the state capital. History The city is named for Gerard Brandon, Governor of Mississippi during the early 1800s. A newspaper, ''The News'', was established in 1892. The Brandon Bank was established in 1900, and The Rankin County Bank was established in 1906. Russ Parr (born 1959 in California) is an American radio DJ, film director, writer, actor and television personality known for such television shows as ''Rock 'N' America''. Career Parr began as a Production Services Director at ABC TV. Russ was the morning DJ on KDAY doing imitations of Magic Johnson, Ronald Reagan and other celebrities. He also worked as a stand-up comic for eight years, performing his first show as an opening act for Joan Rivers in Santa Monica, California. Parr also found parts on a number of television shows including ''Martin'', '' The Jenny Jones Show'', and ''Turnstyle'', and appeared in television commercials for Kodak and McDonald's. Parr left KDAY (Hollywood) in 1989 and ended up working on KJMZ in Dallas, Texas. Before Parr began as a radio personality, however, he had a recording career under the pseudonym Bobby Jimmy. John Donald Imus Jr. (July 23, 1940 – December 27, 2019), also known mononymously as Imus, was an American radio personality, television show host, recording artist, and author. His radio show, '' Imus in the Morning'', was aired on various stations and digital platforms nationwide until 2018. In 1968, he began his first radio job, at KUTY in Palmdale, California.
