Villages Of Saskatchewan
A village is a type of incorporated urban municipality in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. A village is created from an organized hamlet by the Minister of Municipal Affairs by ministerial order via section 51 of ''The Municipalities Act'' if the community has: *been an organized hamlet for three or more years; *a population of 100 or more; *50 or more dwellings or businesses; and *a taxable assessment base that meets a prescribed minimum. Saskatchewan has 250 villages that had a cumulative population of 41,514 and an average population of 166 in the 2016 Census. Saskatchewan's largest village is Caronport with a population of 994, while Ernfold, Keeler, Krydor, Valparaiso and Waldron are the province's smallest villages with populations of 15 each. A village council may request the Minister of Municipal Affairs to change its status to a town if the village has a population of 500 or more. Village
A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town (although the word is often used to describe both hamlets and smaller towns), with a population typically ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand. Archerwill
Archerwill ( 2021 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Barrier Valley No. 397 and Census Division No. 14. The village is approximately north of Wadena, south of Tisdale and southeast of the City of Melfort. Since 1981 Archerwill has been the administrative centre of the RM of Barrier Valley. History The community is named, in a syllabic abbreviation, after the secretary-treasurer and two councilors of the executive governing council of the RM of Barrier Valley in 1924. They were: Archie Campbell and Ervie Hanson, councilors; and William Pierce, secretary-treasurer. Archerwill incorporated as a village on January 1, 1947. Alvena
Alvena ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Fish Creek No. 402 and Census Division No. 15. It is approximately 60 km northeast of Saskatoon. History Many early settlers to Alvena were of Ukrainian descent. Many were peasant serf farmers in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Others were from Poland and they erected Roman Catholic Churches in the area. Earlier settlers along the South Saskatchewan River were Métis. Many of these families were involved in the April 24, 1885 Battle of Fish Creek which occurred in Tourond's Coulee, a few miles west of what later became Alvena. Alida ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Reciprocity No. 32 and Census Division No. 1. The village is approximately east of the City of Estevan. Farming and oil are the major local industries. Several ghost towns are in the vicinity, including Nottingham to the east, Auburnton, to the west, and Cantal to the north-west. With the investment of oil and other industries, the area continues to grow. History Alida was founded as a Canadian Pacific Railway station in the late 19th century, and it was named for Dame Alida Brittain. The local area was settled by immigrants from Europe, and other parts of North America. Alida incorporated as a village on February 19, 1926. The rail line was closed in 1976 when a spring storm washed out the rail bridge near Lauder, Manitoba, at the beginning of the line.
