List Of High Priests Of Israel
This article gives a list of the High Priests (''Kohen Gadol'') of Ancient Israel up to the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD. Because of a lack of historical data, this list is incomplete and there may be gaps. High Priests of Israel The High Priests, like all Levitical priests, belonged to the Aaronic line. Aaron
According to Abrahamic religions, Aaron ''′aharon'', ar, هارون, Hārūn, Greek (Septuagint): Ἀαρών; often called Aaron the priest ()., group="note" ( or ; ''’Ahărōn'') was a prophet, a high priest, and the elder brother of Moses. Knowledge of Aaron, along with his brother Moses, exclusively comes from religious texts, such as the Hebrew Bible, Bible and the Quran. The Hebrew Bible relates that, unlike Moses, who grew up in the Egyptian royal court, Aaron and his elder sister Miriam remained with their kinsmen in the eastern border-land of Egypt ( Goshen). When Moses first confronted the Egyptian king about the enslavement of the Israelites, Aaron served as his brother's spokesman ("prophet") to the Pharaoh (). Part of the Law given to Moses at Sinai granted Aaron the priesthood for himself and his male descendants, and he became the first High Priest of the Israelites. Aaron died before the Israelites crossed the Jordan river. According to the Book of N ...

Eli (Bible)
Eli (, ; grc, Ἠλί, translit=Ēli; la, Heli) was, according to the Books of Samuel, a high priest and Judge of the Israelites in the city of Shiloh, ancient Israel. When Hannah came to Shiloh to pray for a son, Eli initially accused her of drunkenness, but when she protested her innocence, Eli wished her well. Hannah's eventual child, Samuel, was raised by Eli in the tabernacle. When Eli failed to rein in the abusive behavior of his sons, God promised to punish his family, which resulted in the death of Eli and his sons. Later biblical passages mention the fortunes of several of his descendants, and he figures prominently in Samaritan religious tradition. Biblical narrative Eli was the high priest (''kohen gadol'') of Shiloh, the second-to-last Israelite judge (succeeded only by Samuel) before the rule of the Kings of Israel and Judah. Hannah This story of Hannah, with which the Books of Samuel begin, involves Eli. Hannah was the wife of Elkanah. She was childless. ...

Uzzah
According to the Tanakh, עזה, Uzzah or Uzza, meaning "Her Strength", was an Israelite whose death is associated with touching the Ark of the Covenant. The account of Uzzah appears in two places in scripture: 2 Samuel 6:3-8 and 1 Chronicles 13:7-11. Uzzah was the son of Abinadab, in whose house the men of Kirjath-jearim placed the Ark when it was brought back from the land of the Philistines. With his brother Ahio, he drove the cart on which the ark was placed when David sought to bring it up to Jerusalem. When the oxen stumbled, making the ark tilt, Uzzah steadied the ark with his hand, in direct violation of the divine law, and he was immediately killed by the Lord for his error. David, displeased because Yahweh had killed Uzzah, called the place where this occurred "Perez-uzzah", which means "to burst out against Uzzah". David was afraid to bring the ark any further, and placed it in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months. The Lord then blessed Obed-edom and ...

Sashai II
Sashai ben Abishua (Sheshai?) was the 1st Samaritan High Priest. He was a contemporary and rival of the Jewish High Priest Eli of Shiloah. He lived in the 15th century BC near the time of Moses The succession of high priests explicitly mentioned in Samarian scripture goes from Moses to Sheshai I, 5th generation from Aaron through teaching of a rite of reciting the name of God, which was more in depth than merely reciting the four letters of the Tetragrammaton He may be linked to Sheshai son of Anak. Anak coming from the Greek word Anax meaning king or shaman king As such he may also be linked to the Canaanite king Sheshi of Egypt. The details of his life and even his existence are unclear, Samaritans credit him as their first high priest, but he rather seems to be the first in their list to deviate from the Israelite list of high priests, being omitted in the Jewish list rather than the line deviating from that point. The Samaritan and Jewish lists only finally deviate i ...
