The 1987 UAAP men's basketball tournament was the 50th year of the men's tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s basketball championship. Hosted by Ateneo de Manila University, the Ateneo Blue Eagles defeated the UE Red Warriors in the finals taking their first UAAP men's basketball championship after transferring from the NCAA (Philippines) in 1978. Tournament format * Double round robin; the two teams with the best records advance Finals: ** The #1 seed will only need to win once to clinch the championship. ** The #2 seed has to win twice to clinch the championship. Elimination round Fedencio Oblina of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was found to be ineligible as he failed his NCEE examinations. The board then forfeited all of UST's win where Oblina played, with the Goldies going from a 6–3 record (tied for third) to a 2–7 record, at seventh place ahead of winless National University (NU). The UAAP Season 50 basketball tournaments involved 23 teams from the eight member schools that played two rounds of elimination games in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in the 1987–88 school year. Ateneo de Manila University was the host school for the second time since joining the league in 1978. The UP Fighting Maroons and the Adamson Lady Falcons were the defending men's and women's champions, while the Ateneo Blue Eaglets have been the juniors' champions since Season 46 (1983). Jerry Herman Codiñera (born November 14, 1966) is a Filipino coach and retired professional basketball player of the Philippine Basketball Association. He is nicknamed the "Defense Minister" for his prowess at the defensive end. He is the current head coach of Homelab Nation – Bagong Cabuyao of Pilipinas Super League. Eric Reyes (basketball)
Enrique "Eric" Reyes (born December 24, 1967) is a Filipino former basketball player who served as a game analyst on PBA on One Sports. Playing career Reyes played with Danny Francisco, Chot Reyes' brother Jun and future PBA star Olsen Racela in Ateneo Blue Eagles, and won championship against Jerry Codiñera-led UE in 1987 and Dindo Pumaren-led La Salle in 1988. Point Differential
Goal difference, goal differential or points difference is a form of tiebreaker used to rank sport teams which finish on equal points in a league competition. Either "goal difference" or "points difference" is used, depending on whether matches are scored by goals (as in ice hockey and association football) or by points (as in rugby union and basketball). Goal difference is calculated as the number of goals scored in all league matches minus the number of goals conceded, and is sometimes known simply as plus–minus. Goal difference was first introduced as a tiebreaker in association football, at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, and was adopted by the Football League in England five years later.
