Tunisian Canadians ( ar, التونسيون الكنديون) are Canadians of Tunisian descent or Tunisians who have Canadian citizenship. Most Tunisian Canadians speak Arabic, French or English. According to the 2016 Census there were 25,645 Canadians who claimed Tunisian ancestry. Moroccan Canadians
Moroccan Canadians are Canadians of full or partial Moroccan descent, as well as people from the state of Morocco who are ethno-linguistic and religious minorities. According to the 2011 Census, there were 71,910 Canadians who claimed full or partial Moroccan ancestry, an increase compared to the 2006 Census. A large minority of Moroccan Canadians, comprising 27,000 people, are Moroccan Jews. History Moroccans began arriving in Canada in the mid-1960s in search of employment and a new life. Between 1962 and 1993, 40,000 settled in Canada. The next wave came in the late 1990s. Tunisian Americans are Americans of Tunisian descent. Tunisia–United States relations date back more than 200 years. History Prior to the arrival of Peace Corps and Amideast volunteers in the early-1960s and 1970s, there was little interest on the part of Tunisians to emigrate to the US. In 1981, the U.S. launched its Technology Transfer Program in Tunisia with the goal of increasing Tunisia's long-term capacity to apply new technologies in support of the development of a market economy. The Technology Transfer Program aimed to accomplish this by developing a substantial cadre of individuals with the skills and attitudes needed to develop and sustain a competitive, open market system. USAID/Tunis to date has obligated $45 million under the Project, has dispersed all but about $3 million of that total. Arab Canadians (french: Arabo-Canadiens) come from all of the countries of the Arab world. According to the 2021 Census, there were 694,015 Canadians, or 1.87%, who claimed Arab ancestry. According to the 2011 Census there were 380,620 Canadians who claimed full or partial ancestry from an Arabic-speaking country. The large majority of the Canadians of Arab origin population live in either Ontario or Quebec. Not all Canadians from the Arab world are necessarily of Arab blood, there are also communities of Armenians, Assyrians/Syriacs, Copts, Kurds, Turcomans, Berbers, and those who espouse a Phoenician or Aramean heritage (see Phoenicianism and Arameanism). Canada–Tunisia Relations
Canada-Tunisia relations are foreign relations between Canada and Tunisia. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1957. At first, the Tunisian government tried to establish relations and get help from both Canadian government and Quebec, but it turned out to be impossible. Since May 1966, Canada has an embassy in Tunis, the first Canadian embassy in North Africa. Since September 1969, Tunisia has an embassy in Ottawa and a consulate in Montreal. Both countries are full members of the Francophonie. Canada was always receptive to Tunisian requests for assistance. This led to increased economic and cultural cooperation. Algerian Canadians are Canadian citizens of Algerian ancestry or Algeria-born people residing in Canada, as well as people from the state of Algeria who are ethno-linguistic and religious minorities. Tunisian Arabic, or simply Tunisian, is a set of dialects of Maghrebi Arabic spoken in Tunisia. It is known among its over 11 million speakers aeb, translit=Tounsi/Tounsiy, label=as, تونسي , "Tunisian" or "Everyday Language" to distinguish it from Modern Standard Arabic, the official language of Tunisia. Tunisian Arabic is mostly similar to eastern Algerian Arabic and western Libyan Arabic. As part of a dialect continuum, Tunisian merges into Algerian Arabic and Libyan Arabic at the borders of the country.
