Tripoli, Greece
Tripoli ( el, Τρίπολη, ''Trípoli'', formerly , ''Trípolis''; earlier ''Tripolitsá'') is a city in the central part of the Peloponnese, in Greece. It is the capital of the Peloponnese region as well as of the regional unit of Arcadia. The homonym municipality has around 47,000 inhabitants. Etymology In the Middle Ages the place was known as Drobolitsa, Droboltsá, or Dorboglitza, either from the Greek Hydropolitsa, 'Water City' or perhaps from the South Slavic for 'Plain of Oaks'. ''Pinback'', also referred to as ''This Is a Pinback CD'', is the debut self-titled album by the indie rock band Pinback. There are at least two different versions of this CD. The first version was released by Ace Fu Records on October 12, 1999. Another was released that same year in Europe by Cutty Shark Records. In the latter version two new tracks were added and the track ordering was also modified. Both "Versailles" and 'Byzantine" would later appear on the compilation, "Nautical Antiques". ''The Audio Of Being'' is the fourth and final album by the Canadian rock group Matthew Good Band, released in 2001. It included two singles: "Carmelina" and "Anti-Pop". The album sold 73,000 units in Canada by March 2003 and was certified Gold the same month. Recording Matthew Good has stated that the recording process for the album was a "nightmare". He claims it started during the rehearsals of the songs for the album, due to the process being hampered with band members trying to inject ideas into the songs so they could make a case for publishing credits. In addition to that, Good was very ill during much of the recording sessions. "Anti-Pop" was not originally recorded for the album. After the recording sessions were finished, the band's label requested that the band record another song that could be released as a single. Melisende of Tripoli (fl. around 1160) was the daughter of Hodierna of Tripoli and Raymond II, count of Tripoli. Biography Melisende was named for her aunt, Melisende, Queen of Jerusalem. She was a cousin of Kings Baldwin III and Amalric I. Melisende's parents bickered constantly, and there were rumors that Raymond was not her father. During a particularly intense dispute in 1152 the family called Queen Melisende and her son Baldwin III from Jerusalem to intervene, and the conflict was resolved, though Raymond was killed by the Hashshashin directly afterwards. His territory was left to his wife until their son Raymond III (Melisende's brother) reached majority. Leo of Tripoli ( el, Λέων ὸ Τριπολίτης), known in Arabic as Rashīq al-Wardāmī (), and Ghulām Zurāfa (), was a Greek renegade and fleet commander for the Abbasid Caliphate in the early tenth century. He is most notable for his sack of Thessalonica, the Byzantine Empire's second city, in 904. Life Nothing is known of Leo's early life except that he was born in or near Attaleia, the capital of the maritime Cibyrrhaeot Theme, and was captured in an Arab raid and brought to Tripoli. In captivity, he converted to Islam, and entered the service of his captors as a seaman and commander. In Arabic sources he is called Lāwī Abū'l-Ḥārith and given the sobriquet ghulām Zurāfa, "servant/page of Zurafa", probably reflecting the name of his first Muslim master. Jaman Tripoli is a former American soccer player who played in the USL A-League, National Professional Soccer League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Playing career Tripoli began his professional career in 1998 with Raleigh Flyers of the USL A-League. In his debut season he appeared in 24 matches, and recorded two goals. At the conclusion of the A-League season he signed with Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League to play indoor soccer. He would play a total of two seasons with the franchise, and appeared in 55 matches, with two goals. In 1999, Tripoli joined the newly formed Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL A-League. He would play for the club for five seasons, until the September 12, 2003 when the organization was voluntarily relegated to the USL Pro Soccer League, and terminated all of its players contracts.
