Tribalistas (2002 Album)
''Tribalistas'' is the debut album by Brazilian musical trio Tribalistas, consisting of Marisa Monte, Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown. The 13-track album was released worldwide in 2002. The album sold over a million copies in Brazil alone, despite the group never performing any song on TV or giving any radio interviews. The album also achieved considerable success in Europe; it was the best-selling album of the year in Portugal and it went triple platinum in Italy and double platinum in Spain. The album also charted in Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, France, among other countries. The album received five Latin Grammy Music Award nomination in 2003 (winning Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album), in addition to a BBC Awards for World Music nomination in 2004. Tribalistas ( Brazilian Portuguese: /tɾibaˈlistɐs, -ˈliʃtɐʃ/) is a Brazilian supergroup consisting of Arnaldo Antunes (ex-Titãs), Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown (Timbalada). Their debut collaboration resulted in the popular album '' Tribalistas'', released in Brazil in late 2002 by EMI and in international territories in 2003. The album attained considerable popularity despite the group never performing any song on TV or giving any radio interviews. A DVD release featuring the 'making of' and all the tracks on the album was also released internationally. Margareth Menezes
Margareth Menezes (born October 13, 1962) is a Brazilian singer from Salvador, Bahia. Her style is considered axé but her music also steers into samba and MPB territory, at times drawing on African rhythms and reggae. Menezes is best known in Brazil for her song "Me Abraça e Me Beija", a major hit in 1990. She also scored another hit with "Dandalunda", a song which became the unofficial anthem of the 2003 Salvador carnival. Menezes has achieved superstardom in her native Bahia but only moderate success in wider Brazil. She is famed for her energetic live performances and regularly tours and performs at carnival celebrations. In 1990, one of Menezes's tracks "Elegibô (Uma Historia De Ifa)" was used in the Mickey Rourke film '' Wild Orchid''.
