Thomas Monteath Douglas
General Sir Thomas Monteath Douglas (1787 – October 1868) was an officer of the Bengal Army of the East India Company. He served in a number of wars and campaigns, most notably the First Anglo-Afghan War. Early life Douglas was born Thomas Monteath, the son of Thomas Monteath and grandson of Walter Monteath, who married Jean, second daughter of James Douglas of Mains. This Jean was the sister of Margaret, who was the wife of Archibald, Duke of Douglas, and the Duchess of Douglas entailed an estate with the curious name of Douglas Support to the descendants of her sister, which was eventually inherited by Thomas Monteath. He was born in Hanover Parish in Jamaica. Douglas entered the East India Company's service as an ensign in the Bengal Army on 4 December 1806, and was at once attached to the 35th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry, with which he served throughout his long career. Thomas Douglas (American Judge)
Thomas Douglas (April 27, 1790 – September 11, 1855) was an American lawyer and judge. He served as the first chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court from January 1846 to 1851, and then again as a Justice 1854–1855. Douglas was born in 1790 in Wallingford, Connecticut, in New Haven County. He served as U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of Florida from 1826 to 1846. He served on the Florida State Supreme Court from 1846 to 1851 and again from 1854 to 1855. His father was a shoemaker and farmer. He attended the public schools and was tutored by an aunt. He married Hannah Sanford September 26, 1814. In 1815, he moved to Indiana, where he engaged in manufacturing and mercantile, though the financial Panic of 1819 left him deeply in debt. Thomas Clement Douglas (20 October 1904 – 24 February 1986) was a Scottish-born Canadian politician who served as seventh premier of Saskatchewan from 1944 to 1961 and Leader of the New Democratic Party from 1961 to 1971. A Baptist minister, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in 1935 as a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). He left federal politics to become Leader of the Saskatchewan Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and then the seventh Premier of Saskatchewan. His government introduced the continent's first single-payer, universal health care program. After setting up Saskatchewan's universal healthcare program, Douglas stepped down and ran to lead the newly formed federal New Democratic Party (NDP), the successor party of the national CCF. Tommy Douglas (January 9, 1906 – March 9, 1965) was an American jazz clarinetist, bandleader, and reed instrumentalist. Early life and education Douglas was born in Eskridge, Kansas. He taught himself clarinet and saxophone in school and later attended the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Boston Conservatory from 1924 to 1928. Career During his career, Douglas was known for his work as a sideman for Jelly Roll Morton and Bennie Moten. He was also an accomplished bandleader, showcasing such talent in his bands as Charlie Parker and Jo Jones, among others.
