Taycheedah, Wisconsin is an unincorporated census-designated place in the Town of Taycheedah in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The community is located adjacent to the city of Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago. As of the 2010 census, its population is 704. Taycheedah calls itself the " Sheepshead Fishing Center of the World". U.S. Route 151 ran through the community until a bypass around Fond du Lac was built in the 2000s. Taycheedah (originally Taychedah) is a town in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,666 at the 2000 census. The census-designated places of St. Peter and Taycheedah and the unincorporated communities of Hopokoekau Beach, Linden Beach, Minawa Beach, Peebles, Silica, and Welling Beach are located in the town, as well as Malone, which is partially located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91.3 km2), of which, 30.0 square miles (77.7 km2) of it is land and 5.2 square miles (13.6 km2) of it (14.90%) is water. Taycheedah Correctional Institution
Taycheedah Correctional Institution is a prison in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin near the Town of Taycheedah. Established in 1921, it was known as Wisconsin Home for Women until 1975. The facility houses maximum-security and medium-security adult females, with an average population of 936 as of May 2019. History Before the Wisconsin Industrial Home was opened in 1921, female inmates were held in the Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun (now known as Waupun Correctional Institution). After it opened, women who committed "crimes against morality" were transferred to the Wisconsin Industrial Home, while women who had committed more serious crimes or were repeat offenders remained at Waupun. In 1931, construction began on a new facility, the Wisconsin Prison for Women, adjoining the Wisconsin Industrial Home. All women were transferred to this new facility. A bypass is a road or highway that avoids or "bypasses" a built-up area, town, or village, to let through traffic flow without interference from local traffic, to reduce congestion in the built-up area, and to improve road safety. A bypass specifically designated for trucks may be called a truck route. Lake Winnebago
Lake Winnebago ( mez, Wenepekōw Nepēhsæh, oj, Wiinibiigoo-zaaga'igan, one, kanyataláheleˀ) is a shallow freshwater lake in the north central United States, located in east central Wisconsin. At 137,700 acres it is the largest lake entirely within the state, covering an area of about 30 miles by 10 miles, with 88 miles of shoreline, an average depth of 15.5 feet, and a maximum depth of 21 feet. It has many shallow reefs along the west shore, and a drop-off type shoreline on the east. There are several islands along the west shore. The lake has two primary tributaries, the Wolf and Fox Rivers, which combine at Lake Butte des Morts. Fond du Lac () is a city in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 44,678 at the 2020 census. The city forms the core of the United States Census Bureau's Fond du Lac Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Fond du Lac County (2020 population: 104,154). There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris.
